If you are a stay at home parent with 2 kids, how do you spend your day?

dressing gown - A picture of a dressing gown

Im asking this question as one of my neighbours, has two kids (I think) and everytime she stands on her doorstep for a cigarette she is always in dressing gown!!! Today its nearly 11am and the sun is shining beautifully and we noticed her come out and she is in her dressing gown!! So if you stay at home what do you spend your day wearing?? Do you wear clothes, house clothes or you dressing gown??Im not a parent but I definately would not be in my dressing gown all day!!

I am a stay at home mom, at least for the time being. And I might go around the house in what I call "house clothes". Clothes that cover me, but I wouldn't dare wear out of the house. But I do get dressed. I have to because I am living in another person's house. Even still, if I stay home, I still have to take my daughter to daycare, so she can have time with other children, and my son to the bus stop for school. So staying in a gown all day is out of the question.

On a rare occasion I will walk around with just my pj's on. but most of the time its jeans and a tshirt. Why dirty up nice clothes when you're cleaning house. Now when I go into to town or something i'll put on a nice shirt.

By dressing gown I'm assuming you mean her nightgown (correct me if I'm wrong on that)..If thats what you mean then no I dont since I dont wear nighties to bed LOL...I dont put on street clothes either though unless I have to go out which is only on Thursdays...Why bother making even more laundry for myself ya know..and its not like ppl come over or i'm in town/the city so whats the point I figure

Dressing gown, dressing robe...like the one in the picture!! I have clothes that I'll wear in the house but then I'll have clothes that I'll wear if I go outside to the shops or where ever!!! So while your home, what do you wear??

I stay home with my son every day, but every day I do get dressed. There has been once or twice when I was really sick that I stayed in pajamas. If I feel like dressing down, then I'll wear sweats, or shorts and a t-shirt. I always feel better when I get myself dressed and motivated. I take my son outside alot during the nice days so that's another reason that I prefer to dress with real clothes and not night clothes. You know what's funny--- maybe it's better that she DOES have that gown on--- lord only knows what she is wearing under it! LOL

That is a very good point!! Who knows what she could have on under the dressing gown!! I have house clothes that I wear around the house but will change in something more suitable when going out. I will stay in my pjs if Im not well though!! Thanks for your comment.

It is her choice. If she has a husband/partner who work's, pay's taxes and she stay's at home to watch the children then it's her choice, she is not hurting anyone. Yet on the other hand if she is a benefit sponger then she really should get her act together and try and find a job to give her kid's a better life.

I know its her choice and personally I wouldnt spend my day in a dressing gown!! She does have a partner and I think he does work but not sure!! I was just asking if other people would spend the day looking after their children in a dressing gown or clothes. I mean clothes are more practical than a dressing gown when looking after children.

my wife is a stay at home wife and mom. we only have a son. two years old and his picture appears as my avatar. my wife sleeps with jammies on cold nights and simple shorts and t-shirt. when she wakes up she change again with clothes tat are comfortable so she can move easily around the house. clothes that are not hot for it is summer here. she takes a bath after cooking meal so she change clothes again. i am imagining your neighbor.... har har har. a woman that is in her dressing gown all day and smokes... not a good smell for me

I am a stay at home parent for the moment. All of my kids are school age and unless they are sick they are in school. No, I don't stay in my house coat, or dressing gown as you called it. I wear comfortable clothes that can be worn both outside as well as inside.

I am usually in jeans or track suit pants because I have to get my son ready for school and walking to the bus stop by 7.50. Only when my hubby works late and drops him to school, do I remain in my PJ's. If I am not due to go anywhere during the day then I stay in them. It doesn't happen often becuase most of the time I have to get dressed because I have rubbish to put out and mail to collect, then I have to pick up my son from the bus stop at 3.10pm.

Well Sweetheart I think it depends on your circumstances! I have a 14 year old and until last year I have always worked either full or part time and wish I could still work! Because of the pain and mobility problems I suffer I can't do much of anything and I spend most of my time in my pjs and/or dressing gown! If I have to go somewhere I get dressed but otherwise I do not see the point of going through the pain of getting dressed and undressed either side of the day - I just get changed when I have my shower - usually into clean pjs! lol We are all bery different people and I know sometimes when my kids were very young I would do the housework in my dressing gown as well as getting the kids organised - sometimes it was quite late by the time I got around to showering and dressing! xxx
