the traffic situation in my city is really crazy

now that i have learned how to drive i realized how crazy is the traffic situation in our city... i live in bacolod city in southern philippines and many people who are not from here find our traffic situation really crazy.
while you are driving, a trisikad or a tricycle will pop from nowhere. then maybe a jeepney or a taxi will stop in the main thoroughfare while you are all accelerated. pedestrians cross anywhere, whether there are lanes of none. children play on the sides of the streets. there are dogs and cats everywhere.
but surprisingly, despite the traffic situation, we have few accidencts, it seems that the people here just know how to avoid accidents.
so that is what i have to learn to live with...

so where are you in the philippines located? i'm based in makati so i know you're pretty sure about how bad rush hour traffic can get. considering that makati alrady has loading/unloading zones and a pretty strict traffic police, traffic there can really get on your nerves. and that's just one city. imagine, if there was no discipline whatsover in makati.
i'm happy that there are few vehicular accidents in your area. the evening news always carry a story or two about a vehicular accident. soem are lucky that they only damage their vehicles or some property but so are not. i remember seeing one news about a passenger jeep going down a ravine. killed at least 10 passengers including the driver and everyone was hurt pretty badly.
unless, everyone starts pitching in to resolve the traffic situation here in the country, i think it'll be one of the major concerns of everyone. consider the wasted hours spent on the road getting to and fro form one place to another. and believe the hype... bayani fernado and his mmda are really part of the problem!!!

It does sound rather crazy out there. Here in the UK traffic is not too bad and there are many traffic light controls and roundabouts which keep the traffic in order. We also has many designated cycle paths and bus lanes to help prevent congestion.
