I'm trying to connect with others that have this frustrating disease. I'm wondering about what treatments your doctor has you on. Have you been able to overcome this? What meds are you taking? Have you had surgery for it? What was the outcome of the surgery? All information is appreciated.

Hello. I do have hypothyroidism, along with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is an auto immune disease that kills your thyroid gland. I am on Armour thyroid, which is a natural thyroid medication. I tried synthroid without much luck. I still had weight gain, fatigue, and pain. The Armour helps some. Unfortunately, I have other problems that mimic thyroid symptoms, so I still don't feel well.
You usually don't need surgery for hypothyroidism unless you develop cancer or a painful goiter.
Most people will be on the medication for life. Especially if you have Hashimoto's because your thyroid is no longer working, and no on can live without the hormones it produces. Even with regular hypothyroidism, you will need the medication for life. Otherwise the fatigue and pain will keep getting worse.
If you need to lose weight, a low carb diet works well. Getting plenty of rest, exercise, eating right and taking your medication are how you deal with this disease.
I wish you all the best.
