Confusion with Tax Rebates

I have been reading alot of discusions about the tax rebates and so many people are saying that this rebate will affect our 2008 taxes. Where does it say this? There are plenty of government sites that answer most of everyones questions about the rebates and I have not seen where this will affect my 2008 taxes. Also if you did your taxes thru an online program like H&R block and paid for the service with your refund and had your refund direct deposit you will not get your rebate direct deposit. If you paid for the service with a credit card or bank atm and had direct deposit you will get your tax rebate direct deposit. If you had your refund put on a card you will get your rebate as a check. I used the free service and did direct deposit. My husbands social ends in 05 and mine in 13 and as of today May 1st still don't have a deposit. I did however speak to my bank and was told that the deposit will be made on May 2nd. I have gotten all my information from www.irs.gov website they have a calculator and any information that you need. I wouldn't trust anyother site beside the government sites for information on the rebates. Why is there so much confusion with these rebates when all the informaton is on the website, I just can't see that the government is going to say that this rebate will not affect our 2008 taxes and then go and make us pay taxes on it next year, specially when its in writing all over the internet. As far as what I'm doing with my refund. I plan on getting ahead of our bills. Putting some aside for my sons birthday and a camping trip this summer with the family.

I believe you're right. When you go to fill out your taxes online next year it will ask about any refunds that you received. Although, I think mine only asks about state income tax refund.

See this is where there is confusion, this is not a refund its a rebate. My impression is its a gift with no strings attached. Like if you purchase something with a rebate included you get a check for the rebate, unlike returning the purchase and getting a refund. My impression is that our tax refund is cause we overpaid our taxes, the rebate is well to stimulate the economy. Its not a income and its not a refund so we shouldnt have to pay taxes on it next year, well thats what it says on www.irs.gov. I only hope its in my account tomorrow like promised.
