Update on Cat Killer

I just heard on the news that the guy who brutally killed the cat in front of children awhile ago is likely to get a sentence of 180 days plus a $1000.00 fine. I think that this sentence is much too light. The sicko will be free to do the same thing again(or something worse) in about 6 months. I find very little justice in that. Maybe he will be placed in a cell with an animal lover.

He deserves to go to jail but it should have definitely been longer - it is the same as killing a human being in my eyes and the fact that he did it in front of children is even worse - children should be taught to respect animals and it would also have been very traumatice for them to witness this. He will get what he deserves as 'what goes around comes around' as the saying goes.

It is a small victory at best, frankiecesca, but such as these may ultimately win the war.

Yes thats right - it helps as it does show other people that they will not get away with it and there fore hopefully stop others from doing the same thing in future.

To be honest, I am surprised he even got that, there are no real laws protecting animals. It is a crying shame as far as I am concerned.

I believe they are making some progress, winterose, in the fight to win more rights where animals are concerned. The animal rights organizations have a lot to do with this.

I am glad to see someone who is a cruel person being punished, I think the law is always too light on people especially when it comes to cats, I just don't understand the hatred of cats, they really are harmless and do a lot of good, our Council rid our neighbourhood of a lot of cats and now we are invaded with mice and rats, it seems people prefer to have a lot os mice and rats rather than one cat, maybe because they can't see the mice and rats most times they think they are not there...I would prefer 100 cats than even one mouse or rat....

You are so right, lilaclady! The cats perform a valuable service in helping to control the rodent population. The problem as I see it is that many people are just afraid of cats due to their unwillingness to learn something about them.

I am glad he is being punished even though I do think his sentence isn't as strong as one would hope! Maybe he will realise that the reason he is in prison at all is because what he did was so wrong and reprehensible that the courts had no option but to send him there and will feel that it is too much of a risk to do anything like that again - at least I hope so! xx

For sure, mummymo, he will have time to reflect upon his dastardly deed!

That isn't enough unless he is put into a cell with an animal lover..Usually those who hurt those who are helpless like children or animals, I heard he could have a very rough time in those 180 days..

I say, let the punishment fit the crime, carmelanirel! Since he didn't give that poor kitty a fighting chance he should not get one.

I kind of said that, but in a subtle way by saying he would have rough time if other inmates that loved animals knew what he was in for..

I hate to hear that kind of news. I'm big animal lover, when I was little girl my Grandmother told me to stay away from people who don't like animals. She said those kind of people don't care about people either. This man must be the kind of person she was talking about, because he did his horrible deed in front of children, not caring about their feelings.

I have to agree with your grandmother, sherlock. People who abuse animals don't care very much for humans either.

This is hardly enough to teach him a lesson or give him a chance to be rehabilitated. It almost says that a cat is not worth much let alone the visciousness, brutality and callousness of his actions. It's my bet he will take his anger out on another cat or catS when he gets out.
I hope he gets brutalised himself while he's inside even if this puts me at the same level as him.

Is that all? Good grief there is no justice. I truly hope the guy gets put behind bars with a whole bunch of animal rights activists. There are days when I truly despair of the justice systems around the world, when creeps like this can get off so lightly.

Indeed, goth! I wonder what his reply is when his fellow inmates ask the question, "What are you in for?"

I think that's awful, tessah! There should be laws to protect animals everywhere!

i agree wih you it is way too light but the sad thing is i doubt he would of got that sentence if he hadnt done it in front of children he'd probably of got away with it with a slap on the wrists! i think its terrible what people do to animals why? i am a great animal lover and would love to know why some people feel the need to hurt them
