I just bought a new laptop and it came with norton anti virus. Should I use this or should I completly remove it. I have Avast on my other computer. I was told by the sales guy that they could remove it for $$. I opted to take it home with out removing it. If I use it now can it be removed later? If you have experience with norton please let me know your opinion. If you believe there is a better FREE virus protection for me let me hear it. Thanks

Norton are somewhat system hog. Meaning PC resource eater. It will really slow down. You can use avast instead or Clamwin antivirus But I recommend buying Eset Smart Security. One of the best out there

I believe there will be a six month/year for free. If you want to use it you can go ahead. Then you may have to pay the subscription fee (I believe it's 35 USD) per year to keep Norton. I think Norton is an okay product. It gives you good protection, BUT it uses WAY too much memory, too much hardware space, and you have to pay around 35 dollars each year to renew it! I believe Avast or AVG is just as good plus it's free. You can also get Comondo Pro Firewall also free...so these two softwares (Avast or AVG plus Comondo Firewall) will replace Norton. Pablo

It would depend whether you are referring to just norton anti virus or to the complete Norton Internet Security suite which is often bundled with a new computer. The full suite is very resource intensive and will certainly slow the system, but Norton anti virus itself is worth keeping.

I really admire norton antivirus for its reliablity in detecting and removing viruses. But the sad thing is its not free. You have to buy a license to activate its full feature. Ahm that's why i prefer to use an antivirus with a performance similar to norton but the price is $0. I myself use AVG 8. But you can also try Avira Antivir 8. You can download it at www.download.com Believe me its worth using!!!
