Do you do makeovers of your place every few years and change appliances,or upgrade as new technology comes in? Or do you keep stuff til it's beyond repair before disposing of it? I have a Washing machine And a Fridge Freezer that I inherited from my Grandparents in the early 90's- The washer has a plastic door latch thats proven fragile, but is easily replaced (3x,so far!),and the Fridge freezer quit on me once, but was up and running again with a straightforward, inexpensive part replacement..Maybe I'm a bit of a Pack Rat..How about You? Thanks for responses!

My refrigerator is as old as adam,I have had it for fifteen years lol and its still in good working order,so that proves a point that we only replace household equipment when it is really essential,if a peice of equipment is in good working order then it stays with us.The world is full of recycled fridges and washing machines,we should continue to keep using them until they are no longer in working order.

I keep my stuff until it no longer works. Usually with washer or dryer, or the fridge, I try to repair myself. I have about a 50/50 shot of fixing them, and usually it is alot cheaper. My dryer broke down and I replaced the coils myself, and the thing runs like its brand new. If I can get another 5-10 years out of it for $80 and a 1/2 hour of my own time, then I think I have done a excellent job. And I'm learning alot about appliances.

Well because I like to be 'green' I generally replace appliances when they are totally kapoot! My washing machine has just broken down and guess what it's just out of warranty! Typical! But my fridge freezer must be about 20 years old, it's probably so energy consuming - but I won't get rid until it's packed up completely!

I usualy only buy new appliances or gadgets whenever they need to be replaced. I will sometimes buy new ones if something better comes out and I really want it.

I keep the stuff until they no longer work. My parents bought me my stove about 10 years ago it was a used stove wehn they bought it and I still have it we had to replace the heating coil for $40 but otherwise it has done fine. I would love to replace my washer dryer with some of these newer models but just can't afford it.

I dont replace till they are broken. If they arent broken why replace them is my policy. Yes id love a fridge with an ice maker and water on the front but mine work so why replace. My dishwasher is not doing so well but my hubby will be trying to fix it before we buy a new one.

I don't buy and replace household appliances until they are broken or unusable. Our refrigerator is older than my son who's turned 20 years old last Feb. The same is true with our living room set although with some damage but still usable. But I replaced last year our washing machine which had been with us for almost 18 years. I don't dispose off things easily coz I am a bit sentimental and want to still see old things in my place.
