..linked to lack of vaccinations. In all but one of the cases, the people who contracted measles had not been vaccinated. Some were too young to have gotten the shots, which are administered from 12 to 15 months of age. 64 confirmed measles cases in nine states since January 64 patients ranged in age from 5 months to 71 years 63 of the 64 were unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination status Highest number reported for same time period since 2001. I still have trouble believing people do not get vaccinated. It helps to avoid tragedy.

You just reminded me that I have to take my 15 month old daughter to the doctor next week and get her shots. She needs to get 3 I think. I am not sure what they are. Hopefully one of them is the measles one unless she has already gotten that one.

Baby shots are no fun. But the safest way to go.

At first, it didn't make sense to me either. But that was because I was reading it wrongly. I thought for some reason that the outbreak was linked to a faulty batch of vaccine. Then I re-read it. There are certain people whom, for religious reasons will not use medication unless absolutely needed. One of those people was an old friend of mine Carol, who was a Seventh Day Adventists(1) or something like that. As I recall, the Branch Davidians(2) from Waco Texas(3) were affiliated with that group somewhere. Anyway, Carol wouldn't take aspirin, much less anything more like vaccinations or medicine. It was my understanding that her aversion to medicine might have been derived from the religious teachings of what is called the "Christian Science"(4) movement. Anyway, I would expect that there might be several branches of religious thought which are averse to the idea of vaccination or medicine in general. I suspect, although I do not know for certain, that the Jehovah's Witnesses(5) might also have some similar seeming aversions to medicines. At least, I know that they have some issues with blood transfusions. As a medical professional, it seems odd to me that anyone would have a problem with blood transfusions. Yes, there are medical risks involved in handling blood, but there is almost certainly greater medical risks of not employing blood transfusions when needed. Ok, that covers the people whom I can't agree with on the issue of medicine and vaccinations. However, you need to be aware of one other group of people. Those with autistic(6) children. There is a theory out there that a certain vaccine causes or at least increases the chances of autism. Therefore, with that specific vaccination, apparently a flu vaccine, I might be a bit more tolerant of people feeling – uncertain. So, there are very few reasons why I would understand people not getting vaccination, there might be a few reasons which I would have to be less irritated over. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Various included footnotes: 1) Seventh-Day-Adventist - ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh-day_Adventist_Church ) 2) Branch Davidian - ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branch_Davidian ) 3) Waco, Texas - ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waco,_Texas ) 4) Christian Science - ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Science ) 5) Jehovah's Witnesses - ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jehovah's_Witnesses ) 6) Autism - ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I was thirteen years old in my first year of junior high school, I was struck with chicken pox, just after receiving measles vaccine. However the next day I was broke out with chicken pox. I had to stay almost two weeks from school. I went to my pediatrician to have my pox looked at. I had to stay inside the house into an isolated area to avoid the spread. That was the horrible experience. Yeah, I missed all my school mates a lot. When I work at the hospital for now, I go to the occupational health to get overall vaccines to avoid getting diseases. I have been tested overall and the results were normal and good.
