Do you pack a lunch or buy it?

Reading today about a "Brown bag challenge" and got wondering how many other people already pack their lunches and take them to work? How many people just go out to a restaurant for lunch? I try to take a lunch every day with me. I notice that when i go out for meals during the week i feel poorer at the end of the day and that the meals eaten out tend to be less healthy for me than when i take a bagged lunch from home. I occasionally go out for lunch but its more as a treat than a everyday thing. Now i just have to stop giving into the urge to run out for "snacks" What about everyone else?

when i did work out side the home i did pack a lunch, drinks and snacks every day to save money and time. the time factor was more motivating for me than the money because we only got a half an hour for lunch and if you have to run out and get something you waste half or more of your break running instead of relaxing and enjoying your lunch. in today's economy i can imagine more people will begin brown bagging it though.

I agree that more people will probably begin brown bagging it. Do you find it more cost effective working from home?

well i do not make enough money working from home but you do not have to invest in dress clothes for work which saves money, you don't have to drive to work which saves money on gas and wear and tear on the car and there is alot less aggravation. it has its benefits and its draw backs too.

I do not pack my lunch and take to work place. I do buy the food at my work place. We do have cafeteria over there and take from there. I do used to take it from home when I started initially. But these days I am not taking from home. cheers

sadly, food is getting more and more expensive to buy in the grocery store. even sadder are the obnoxious people in the store making it very hard to shop! i think everyone must just be feeling angry about price increases and not necessarily getting what they want/need/can afford. in my area, all the cute independent grocery shops closed long ago, meaning now we have the choice of 2 stores, one large chain which overprices everything, and one smaller chain that has more exotic foods but so-so prices and not much choice of the regular stuff you find everywhere else. there are no independent fruits and veggie stores, or butchers or green grocers.... so restaurant food has become increasingly affordable compared to the task of trying to buy your own groceries and then throw them together to make a meal. in terms of time and convenience, take-out meals from restaurants has become the way to go for me. i don't like it, but there isn't much choice :(

I agree when you say that it costs more money to eat out for lunch. Sometimes I eat out because it's easier than making a lunch everyday. I do try to make a lunch because it is cheaper. Some places have good lunch specials for example Subway is offering their footlong subs for five dollars. That is so cheap and affordable, right? Well it just depends on how much a packed lunch costs and if you are willing to just mix and match..one day pack and the other day buy a lunch. Pablo

I like taking leftovers. I'd love to get subway but everytime i go inthere i break out in hives b/c of their seafood subs.

I've always had or made my own packed lunch. Up until great 9, my mum happily made my sister and I lunches to take to school with us, and still offers to occasionally. While everyone else thought I was missing out because I didn't get canteen food, I have great skin, a great figure and really healthy innards, so I don't feel that I missed out on anything. Not only is the health a positive factor, it's SO much cheaper to make and take lunch yourself than buy pre-made foods anywhere! =D

Although it's so much easier to buy lunch it can get pretty expensive. When I was working full-time I always brought a packed lunch with me. Along with my packed lunch I also brought some fruits and some unsalted nuts in case I need to snack in between!

I do not work outside the home, but my husband does work very hard and long hours. I pack him a nice lunch everyday. I try to make it interesting for him the challenge is he only gets half an hour lunch break so it can not be a very large meal. most of the guys he works with will drive out to fast food for lunch - they must scarf it down quickly! plus the expense of extra gas to get to the fast food place as well as the food itself - it must be a terrible strain on the paycheck

When I was in the morning shift, my Mother would wake up early to pack my lunch before going to work. I should say that it is really convenient for me to pack lunches at work because I can save my money for other stuff that I need. I do sometimes buy lunch here when I don't have any food to eat.

I always find myself eating in between cleaning jobs in my car while I'm driving. I'm getting so sick of it. It's usually fast food from a drive thru, although sometimes I take along a sandwich from home, of turkey with swiss cheese on a bun. There isn't anything else to take from home that I like, but I am really tired of everything right now. The past couple days I couldn't even stand the thought of a sandwich, so I just bought one of those chocolate meal bars and had that for lunch. They're actually pretty good.

I hate sandwiches personally. I really appreciate the microwave at work because i take leftovers with me quite often.

I go to school four times a week and my allowance for a day is three hundred seventy pesos which is equivalent to about eight dollars. I still have to ride two trains back and forth and that will cost me around ninety pesos which is equivalent to two dollars. If I want to save money for something expensive that I want to buy really bad, I will bring a packed lunch with me to be able to save up. In that way, I will be able to buy what I am saving for. On the other hand, If I am not saving up for anything. I would buy the food that I want to eat. I love eating. Sometimes, If I have a lot of money, I would pig out with my friends. We would eat everything that we want to eat like ice cream, cake, cookies and sushi.

I work from home so don't need to pack up a lunch for myself, but i do have to pack up for the children and hubby, it works out so much cheaper. My children have different things on each day, monday is crisp day, tuesday cheese string day, wednesday choocy biscuit day, thursday egg and cress in their sandwiches, friday they have sausage rolls. They also have each days three pieces of fruit. I do make my sandwiches and cut fruit up for myself as I find if I don't I tend to eat rubbish as I either can't be bothered to make sandwiches or time as the phone keeps ringing. I too tend to fell ugh at the end of the day if i haven't made sandwiches as I have ben eating too many biscuits , crisps etc. Hope this helps and is interesting reading for you.

I end up buying something to drink or snack on just to have an excuse to leave the office for a few minutes
