I threw up blood last night

It wasn't a lot of blood. just about the size of a quarter. I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor first thing monday. I'm just afraid of what he might find. I've had chronic heartburn for the last ten years and have never done anything for it except for anti-acids. Over the past week or two, I haven't had much of an appetite. Small meals make me full. Over the last few days, I've been nauseated. Last night I got sick. I'm certain that I probably have like a bleeding ucler or severe esophagitus(sp), but my fear is cancer. I'm unemployed with no life insurance. And I have 4 kids living at home. Has anyone had these symtoms? What was the outcome? Thanks

a quarter? like the coin? hmmm...yeah, you should better see a doctor. i mean, you may not like what you will find out but at least you will find out soon what is wrong with you and so that it can be helped. so many people go to the doctor when there is not much to be done anymore. so i do hope that you go to a specialist... i am suspecting just acid reflux...but i am not sure about the bleeding...some abdominal bleeding is caused by aneurysm, but it could be anything. just please go see the doctor, even for the sake of your kids.

It probably isn't that big of a deal. you can tell alot also by the color of red the blood was. I had that once and I never went to the doctors and well I have never had it since. So I can't tell you what I had but the amount was larger than a quarter. I think that was 15 years ago, so don't worry till you talk to a doctor.

I haven't had these experiences, but I wanted to tell you that I will be praying for you that everything will be okay and that it won't be cancer. You might just have an ulcer, which can be treated. I'm sorry that you are going through this. Just be strong and have faith that everything will be alright. God bless. make sure to keep us updated on how the appointment went.

Sweetheart, you probably have GERD, gastro-esophogeal reflux disease. Feeling full after small meals, heartburn, nausea, are all symptoms of it. Do you throw up a lot? I used to, every day of my freakin life, till I was finally diagnosed with GERD and something called Barrett's Esophogus. There are meds now that will stop the progression right in its tracks, Cyntrow. You're going to have to get an endoscopy though. It's not bad at all - they knock you out, and put a camera down your throat into your esophogus and stomach and that way, they can see if you have an ulcer or whatever, and you probably do have an ulcer, since you threw up that bit of blood. Don't be too scared, it's most likely NOT cancer, just gerd and/or an ulcer, darlin, and that can be taken care of with meds. And one of the meds they use for that, Protonix, has a rebate program, where they'll rebate up to $30.00 of the price you pay for it. I'm not sure where insurance comes into all of that though. But there are programs to get your meds at little or no cost and you can check into those - your doctor and/or pharmacist should be able to help you with that. So get your butt to the clinic or wherever you go and get this thing checked out so you can put your mind at ease and get some relief from your misery - 10 years is a long time to suffer. And please, be sure to let us know what happened, ok? I'm going to be thinking about you, so make sure you keep me informed - please.

I think after 10 years of this I would have gone alot sooner to get it diagnosed. Hopefully you haven't waited so long that there isn't a fix now for this problem. Always go to the doctor right away, because these types of things can get helped. But the longer you wait the worse it is.

Thanks, Spring. you are a sweetheart. I have an appointment for tomorrow, Wednesday at 8:30am. Unfortunately, my two youngest kids woke up on monday and tuesday with a fever. I didn't tell my husband about my problem. he doesn't handle stress well. My oldest son usually watches the kids, but he doesn't get home from school until 4 and my doctor closes at three on all days except friday. My brother said he will come over in the morning in case one or both of the girls are still sick so that I can go to the doctor. I had really wanted him to go with me. Darren is such a positive person, I feel he could keep me upbeat, regardless of the outcome. Ah well, I haven't had any nausea since that night. I almost want to puke to see if it happens again. Is that stupid?? Spring, I know you had your own problems with cancer and I am so happy that you and everyone else is here for me. You beat it, and if it comes to the worst, I can too. If the worst does happen to be the case, I might have to count on you as a support, because you would know how I feel. Love ya, Cyndi

Just to update you and everyone else, the dr thinks I have holes in my esophagus(sp) but they are sceduling a scope for friday morning. I feel better now and actually haven't have heartburn in a couple of days, but I am feeling more up beat since the dr doesn't seem to think it's life threatening.

I'm glad you will be seeing your Dr. Please try not to think the worst. I know that is funny coming from me because ever since I had cancer, whenever the least little thing comes up, cancer is the first thing that pops in my mind. I have to realize that I'm going to get sick in other ways and it will not always be cancer. I am working on that! You are in my prayers and I pray that you have a good report from your Dr! You seem to be a strong person and I feel you are going to be A OK!! Love you too, sweetie! Melissa

I've known people who have had similar symptoms and it's turned out that they had an ulcer. I understand you're scared and of course, everyone thinks about cancer but I honestly don't think you should worry too much about that, Hon. Just get your butt to the doctor ASAP and find out. It's probably an ulcer and you'll have to watch what you eat for awhile but you'll be fine. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers in the meantime. Annie

I have not have any experience like this before so I can't give much help. Better go to the doctor at once and also try searching at the internet for any similar symptoms. It helps to have some information on what you are dealing with. Please keep us update on your status and we will be praying for you.

Not really but i think it's a very serious case you got there throwing up blood means there must be something that causes blood flow to get in digestive tracks cause vomiting has to do with intense muscle tension in your abdomen and the nearest major organ could be your digestive system or i think it's more of an eating disorder do you throw up what you eat sometimes?

If you have had severe heartburn for a while you could have ulcers in your esophogus which is what could cause the bleeding. Make sure you tell the Dr about he heartburn too. In any case they should give you some medicine to clear up the heartburn. Don't let them give you any cheesy med either like prilosec. Nexium is much better and you can take it 2x a day at 40 mg each dose. Good luck and let us know what happens. Will be thinking of you on Monday. I had the same thing and it was ulcers but I was worried like you are now. However if it is ulcers in your esophogus which is caused by severe continuous heartburn that in itself can cause a condition known as Barretts esophogus and that is cancer . It will be okay
