how do you find referrals?

I have been working online with several different programs for quite some time now. Some I have a couple of referrals on and others I have none. But I see that some people are able to build downlines or referrals like crazy. I would love to get some quality referrals for a couple of programs that I am very excited about, including mylot.
I have the other one listed on my profile here. I have it listed on my myspace and in my blog at Yuwie. I use some of those traffic builder websites. I have even created a flash page about the opportunity but as yet I have none for mylot and all my referrals for ZenZuu have come from here. (which is great because I think the people in this community are awesome)
What I really need to know is: What have you done to obtain referrals that has WORKED? Are there sites that I should be utilizing that I am not?

Hey,
There is this great way to get referrals. It is this site called GetRef. It is completely free! Just try it out and make some credits, and soon you'll be on your way!
If you're worried about inactive referrals, when you try to give them credits for them joining, tell them that they must be active, and complete a certain number of things... It'll work, so just try it out.
