Beets: I think they taste like dirt!

My sister in law made a gourmet meal for our sibling supper we have every two months. She grilled veggies...peppers, potatoes, onion, okra and beets. I like everything but the beets. To me they taste like dirt unless they are pickled. Then I do like them. What is your take on beets? Do you like them or not at all?

Big yuck! There was a time when I loved them. My Grandmother made them for dinner one night, they were pickled and I was not feeling well. Never ate them again.

I really dispise beets. I won't eat them no matter how they are fixed. I am about the same way with cranberry sauce which is served everwhere I go around the holidays. Think I'd rather starve than eat either..lol

I have never eaten beets before. I'm sure I've passed them on a salad bar or two, not knowing what they were. What do they look like? Are there a couple colors of them? Is it something that is usually eaten on its own, or mixed with other vegetables?

They are red and look like a turnip...you usually eat them by themselves as they turn everything around them red. I do like them pickled....once in a while but really....they are yucky!

I don't think I would like beets grilled but they are delicious when they are cooked with salt and pepper and lots of butter. It seems that they would be like dried bark if they were grilled. Just my opinion.

I've never been a big beet eater. I have tasted them but you are right they taste like DIRT ! They are gritty to me and I just don't like the texture. I know they are very good for you but to me its just not worth it. I have the same problem with black eyed peas. They taste like dirt to me as well.

I absolutely refuse to cook or eat beets. They make so much mess to cook, I hate the taste of them and I don't appreciate still seeing them when I go to the bathroom. They're nasty and are not allowed in my house plain and simple.

Yep, I have to say that I totally agree with you on this, they do taste like dirt. Sometimes they are so horrible I cannot eat them. I definately prefer them to be pickled.

I have never tried cooked beets, I've only had them pickled. I am not a big fan of them. I think they taste a little like metal. I try to add a little to my cold salads when I can since they are so healthy, though. If I add just one or two slices to the salad it doesn't taste bad, so I can sneak it in there and get the good nutrients from them without suffering with the flavor.
