How often are you supposed to trim your bushes?

We have 2 bouganvillas, 2 hibiscus, and an esparanza. They look like they need to be trimmed, but if I trim them, I'll have to cut off all the blooms. Should I wait to trim them so I can enjoy the blooms, or just trim them now? Also, how often is "typical" to trim bushes?

You should trim them after they bloom. How often you trim them is up to you. You can literally trim it every week. You would obviously take off less and doing more shaping. But it is solely up to you.
I trimmed someone's hedge for $10 as a favor once. Now she wants it done every 3 weeks. I don't have time for that. So I use it as a place to train employees. I tell them they have an hour and let them go. LOL I lose money to do it. I would have to pay an employee $6 to be able to break even.
So I'm raising the price this year. Maybe she will only want it done every 7 weeks. Or once or twice a year like normal people. LOL Some people don't understand that we have to replace and do maintenance on equipment.

So, should I trim them after the blooms die or just after they bloom? WIth bouganvillas, their blooms last most of the year, so I know eventually I'll have to cut off the blooms. It also seems that the areas that need pruned are the parts that are blooming (which makes me sad to cut off the blooms.)
I understand you having to raise your prices for this lady. Perhaps you could trim them for that price if she is paying for other work to be done and you're there anyway. Otherwise, tell her the price is more.

You have a wonderful bush. I enjoy the flowers that blooms. If I'm the owner of those bushes, I'll just enjoy its fragrance and the beautiful flowers. Some people trim their bushes once a month, others do it after two months. So I think trimming your bush depends on your preference. Make a decision for yourself depending on what you think is best.
