As I sat here mylotting late last Tuesday night I could hear the wail of the siren has a fire engine came into the community. Naturally we wondered what was happening but we are not used to any disasterous fires here. Just maybe a small bush fire and once there was a tree lit by some guys who were trying to smoke out some bees. Never a house fire. The largest (and that was huge) was a business place thatwent up in flames but the work that is done there (scrapping metals and burning for copper) could lead to a fire at anytime so that was a wonder but very shocking. On Wednesday morning we were shocked to learn that a 52yr old man had perished in a fire that razed his house. He is actually a member of my church but what makes it hard to bear was that he was blind. God the horror he must have felt gropping through the darkness as he tried to escape the flames. His remains were found at the door. At that hour of the night he must have no doubt been asleep. He was home alone as the son he lives with was out clubbing or something. He is blind from a generic defect and is an independent man. He goes to his sisters for his meals morning and evening and so walks the streets by himself. He knows where he is going from memory and the community people look out for him. Those who saw his remains are just terrified of what they saw. Someone you know bieng burnt out like that. I have not even been there to look. I passed there on Friday on my way into the town. I cant handle those sort of scenes. Had he not perished then I would have gone to have a look no doubt but not with the knowledge someone perished there. Uh uh. Have you ever been involved in a fire or know of someone who has bee? It must be sheer horror to have to go through such a thing.

That is so sad tjades. I have not personally experience a fire,we had a devastating fire occur in our community also. We had some neighbors who went out one night and left four of their five kids alone, and a fire broked out at their home it was electrical i believe.Well all of the neighbors tried to get into the house but because of the burgler bars where unable to save three of the kids. You could imagine the horror of hearing those little ones scream, a few of the men got first degree burns from their efforts. That night was the worst night of our lives when we saw the bodies of those kids being carried out,you could hear loud wails from everyone who was there even the firemen and police men were openly crying. We learned a hard lesson that night we knew that there was something wrong but we never did anything to help, so we all felt as if we were somehow responsible. As devastating as this was something good came out of it, we started to look out for each other and instead of critizing started to understand the true meaning of being thy brothers keeper..Too bad lives had to be lost to realize and put into action what we knew was right.

there was a fire at the back of our house before. it was a huge fire but thank God our firewall was high... you can actually feel the heat from the walls of our house and we almost got hit with the fire. my mom locked all the doors and led us all outside... She kept on praying and praying that our house and factory be saved from the fire. Thank God it was saved.

In 1997 I was 24 years old, I had a 6 year old son and a dog and we lived in a 3 bedroomed bungalow. As I was a single parent, I felt I had to work to give my son some sort of decent life plus I wanted to build a career for myself for when he was older and so I was working full time in a nursing home and taking qualifications as I went along to hopefully one day become a nurse. I had been working my long week which had consisted of 54 hours but also I had done an extra 12 hour shift, I finished sunday night at 8.00 pm and went from work to pick my 6 year old son up from his childminders, we got home about 9.00 and by the time I had bathed my son, spent some time with him and put him to bed it was after 10.30pm. I was absolutely shattered but I was also hungry as I had not eaten anything all day. I decided for some reason that I would have a burger and so I put it under the grill, while it was cooking I went to get my book out of the bedroom, I lay on the bed to read it....... I was awoken a while later to someone shouting and screaming and I could hear this awful noise, my eyes were burning and I could not breathe properly, disorientated and confused I tried to find out what was going on, I went to the kitchen and was horrified to see it engulfed in flames. I started to panic, where was my boy and my dog, I started to walk around the house and I could not find my sons bedroom, I was becoming affected by the smoke and did not realise that I was in serious danger. I heard someone calling to me to get out and tracked the voice to a man standing at the back window, he was begging me to come out, but I said I cannot I need to find my son he is in here. The man told me that both my boy and my dog were out safe. I then got out through the window. I had inhaled so much smoke that the firemen told me I had minutes left to live. A sobering thought. My son and dog were fine, and we all survived. Cruel people where I lived spread rumours saying I had been drinking and had passed out, simply not true, all this was due to over work. I lost my house and everything I owned, I also ultimately lost my job. It was a bad year but we still had our lives.

Gemini_rose...I held my breath all through your response until I realise everyone made it out safe and sound. My God what a horror that must have been. I dont why the first thing people do when someone else experiences certain mishaps in life is to try and say it is some evil they6 did to cause it on themselves. People are just hell bent on looking down their nose at others and what purpose does that serve to impove anyones life? Absolutely none. I am very happy you all got out with your lives and that you have made it through all yor losses. Thanks for sharing. (lol)

Yes it must have been a horror for him. We have to be thankful that we have never endured any such experience. Thanks for sharing Above31rubies. (lol)

i've been in fire once. the fire was near us and it was 1 block away from us. i just wake up in the morning because it was really hot in my parents room so i was wondering what happened. then my cousin go to my parents room and told me that my friend's house was on fire and she asked me what to do because my mom was away that time. i just tell them to observe and if the fire would burn another house near us, then we'll do some action. thankfully th fire has been put out as soon as possible even though the wind that time was kinda strong. aside from that, i also saw some factory and a mall got burned down thrice. there were many people on that scene watching and some of them are also taking some videos and photos.

Thanks for sharing Rhane. Fires are really aweful monsters when they raze and leave ones life in turmoil. They can be fascinating to watch as well but I couldnt watch if someone was burning inside or if the loss was causing someone much pain. (lol)

The closest I've ever come to fire was messing around with a can of axe and a lighter with my friends, but I have heard stories that my mom (as a child) once set my grandmothers couch on fire, and tried to pretend liek she didn't do it.

Hi and welcome to mylot. I am happy to here you have never had to endure such an encounter. I hope though that your years of messing around with a lighter like that have come to an end so that you will not create that situation for anyone. Happy mylotting. (lol)
