What will you do if the fire accident happens?

On May 2nd, there was a fire accident happened in our building. Fortunately it's the holiday and therefore we lived in dad's house and we were not there at that time. Otherwise it would be so horrible. The fire happened in 10th floor and we lived in 15th floor. The fire accident was put off by the neighbors, fortunately. So when the firemen arrived there, the fire accident was already solved. Yesterday my husband and I discussed about it. He said the neighbors were stupid, they should escape immediately. I disagreed to it. As if this fire didn't put off immediately, the result would be quite serious. Especially if the gas got fired, it would cause a bomb. But my husband said they were not firemen, so they should run away. And I said since it was only the beginning, so perhaps they could deal with it and avoid serious result. If I were there at that time, I thought I would also try to put off the fire. What will you do?

It depends on how big the fire is. If its already spread and looking dangerous I would get out right away. If its something I feel that I can handle myself I will try...but it would have to be pretty small. There have been so many house fires around here and it scares me. I'm always afraid I will go somewhere and leave an appliance plugged in or turned on that shouldn't be on.

Of course I will try to put out the fire first. If that property was mine, I would hope others will do likewise. First of all, if we can contain the fire early, the damages will be reduced. Not just for the property owners, but for the property of those that are surrounding the fire as well. Two, in the event the fire is contained early, there is no worries about too many people getting injured. Imagine, if there is a stampede due to panic, the number or people injured would definitely be more. Especially children, who will get easily hurt due to their small stature and size. Three, it is common sense. If there is a fire, and we can put it out, why wait till the fireman arrive? Never heard of the chinese saying "A neighbor in time is worth more than a relative in life"? A neighbor who can render help in the shortest possible time is much better than a relative, or in this case, the fire department. no?

I so agree with you. It is so different when I go back to my in-laws place. The people there are so much friendlier. They will greet each other and the best part of it, they know each other from the various floor. Here where I stay, if you so much as smile a greeting to them, they will smile back suspiciously, wondering what you are up to something that is no good. Sigh...

You are quite right. In fact we are not so familiar with our neighbors today as people don't go to visit each other. We will just say hi when we see each other. But when the door closes, the relationship is closed.

I think we all should help each other in case of emergencies. Putting off fire may not really be our job but it times of emergencies, we just have to do what we have to do. if the neighbors did not have the presence of mind to help put out the fire, things could have gone really ugly indeed.

in the case of fire outbreak, the first thing is to call the fire service office and then try to find the fire extinguisher to try to put it out or reduce the intensity while the fire service arrive.

Hi youless, And pride and honesty has once again bestowed on me, by responding to your topic..hahaha.. and hopefully i will soon get the ten star back.. And as of this situation, if there is a fire extinguisher available readily, i will definitely fight for it. Long time back, i have received a training in my office as to how to react initially when fire struck, some kind of fire safety training.

I guess I will be scared to do that, I will just call the fire department to help us and shout hard to everyone will be alarmed and start to do something to help! I had this experience before and I remember how my knees tremble as I was lifting all my things outside the house even if we were quite far from the fire, but, I was thinking about the electricity connection, it might explode!

I would have done the same thing as what your neighbors did... that is the purpose of why we have fire extinguishers around... so that when can still control the fire before it makes more damage... it is not stupidity but common sense not to run away from a problem that can be solved while it is still possible... and your neighbors were quite brave...

i agree with your husband... it is better to escape and find safety, rather than try to put the fire out yourself... especially if the fire is in a big building.. you'll never know how or when the fire will get 'bigger' and out of control.. the best thing to do is make sure everyone is out safe, and call the fire department.

Hi youless! I will do the same as you. I think that I will see first on what I can do to prevent it from spreading or possibly if I can do something to stop it, then get help. I will flee or escape if there is no way I can deal with it. However, we should also prioritize our safety first than anything else. Just my thoughts dear. Take care and have a nice day!

Just like i will try my possible best to see if i can put off the fire, where by is not possible i will run for my dear life. Your husband seem to be over security and safety conscious, not know that their are some little things we could do on our own once in a while.

If the fire cought our buildings then i will try to call Fire force first. They can deal with it.And there must have some syllinders to prevent fire in every building. So then i must try to operate it.And i will call other men for help.I think these are the things i can do when the fire accedents happens.

I think sometimes we need to be trained to handle this kind of accident.

Yeah....if the case can be solved by our own first,,,so WHY NOT ...so that the incident may not gettin worst after all the fireman would do back-ups as thier job to STOP the fire in the first place..## for me its just OK..to do initiative so that we can avoid worst thing to happened:) @jam@ ~enjoy life~ be contented***

Putting off the fire will be the best idea,if the fire breakout is at the initial stage. If we evacuate the building and then wait for the fire brigade, then I think, much damage will be caused within that time.
