Awwwww, I added you as my friend! I'm vegetarian, and I have been to varying degrees for the past 10 years. I started off not eating beef and pork, then shortly later, I quit eating poultry. Then it was fish. Then I was vegan for a while when I lived in Cali (it was SO EASY there!) Then I moved back to Texas, and I'm happy with being vegetarian. I live in a rural area next to Mexico now, so if I ever wanted to eat anything outside of my house, veganism is totally not an option! It's hard enough finding things to eat just being vegetarian! How long have you been vegan?

I think that's a huge problem with restaurants. I've had some that flat out refuse to make something vegan because it isn't their recipe... when they have ingredients there like baked potatoes, veggies, etc. Usually if you tell them it's an allergy they'll be more open.
Since I'm a college student and have no time to cook, I have to eat out a lot.

I rarely go out to eat because it is so hard to find anything that doesn't requiring holding half the ingredients. I hate ending up with just lettuce haha but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Anyway, it's nice to meet you!

Yeah, I know what you mean! What I really hate is when they tell you it's vegetarian, then you find out weeks later from another waitress that it has some sort of animal stock or something!

Hi wooitsmolly,
Your profile says you have nearly 2,000 myLot friends so far (which sounds like a lot). Hard to be lonely in the midst of 2,000 people, but it's a strange strange world we live in.
Of course, the test of time will reveal who are friends and who are just passing by, or are just names in a phone book.
Your cat is probably the truest friend you'll have - at least, it won't pretend to be something it's not, or hide it's opinion from you. But it will shamelessly manipulate you to accomplish it's own ends - or brutalize you if you fail to comply.
And it's probably not vegan.
Speaking of which, I think being vegan is a sensible life-choice to make. I'm personally pretty much vegan by the circumstance of what I choose to eat, rather than being committed to being kind to animals. And I mostly choose to eat what humans are designed to eat, namely fruits and vegetables. We can cope with all sorts of foods, but most things beside fruit and vegetables - even grains, and especially meat - are far from ideal, and generally lead to degenerative diseases in one form or another.
One particularly insidious poison being heavily marketed by big-money propaganda is dairy produce. This bovine calf-juice really causes humans way more problems than it's worth, including osteoporosis - but try telling that to any university-educated nutritionist, and they'll do their best to either shut you up or kill you, because the dairy lobbies (and the grain and beef industries) pay for their education and salaries.
I am actually soft on animals, because IMO they really are our equals in many respects - humanity certainly has no absolute jurisdiction over the lives of other creatures.
And everything is working according to a Divine plan in this world. Even if you choose not to acknowledge Him, God still probably thinks you're cute (in a cantankerous sort of way).
Hope the weather's nice there - because it's heading into winter here.

I agree with your opinion on dairy. I wish more people would bother to try to learn about what they are putting into their bodies instead of mindlessly listening to any propaganda they see on television about "what's for dinner" and "the most perfect food" and whatever else they say about animal products that are slowly killing everyone...

Have you always been vegan? Every eaten meat? Not trying to "convert" you hear, but trying to see if there's actually any grounds for converting me... I really do Love animals, as a part of God's creation/the Great Spirit/the Unity/etc., but A) I don't know how I"d cook with all non-animal stuff, how I'd eat on the go from a vegan diet, and what would replace my cravings for meat as the center of my every meal. I'm open to suggestions.

David, please PM me!! I have so much information I don't even know where to start!
No, I have not always been vegan. Far, far from it, actually. I didn't even learn how to cook until I cut meat out of my diet. It probably took a week to realize I would never go back...

:) That sounds interesting that they would only serve vegetarian foods. Where was the school located, if you don't mind me asking?

Well, they are located all over the world. I went to Seventh-day Adventist schools and taught in one of the academies run by the same church organization and it's strictly vegetarian cafeteria. However, the school is not vegetarian as a whole. The faculty and staff cab cook meat and fish. Only in the cafeterias are vegetarian foods served. Also in Adventist hospitals they serve vegetarian foods in the cafeteria and to their patients.

You are already on my friend list. I am not vegan, but interested. Where would tell someone to start that was interested in becoming vegan?

I found a couple friends on VegSource that I ended up actually meeting in real life eventually at some of the vegetarian festivals out here. However, now that the festivals aren't as good as they used to be, I don't see them as much. But I guess I am normally too busy anyway. But if you're looking for some vegans in real life, try VegSource as they have people from all over. Of course, you're also welcome to add me as your friend here.

I am one of your friends and I am vegan. One person said to me that vegans are in the minority and I told her about the Vegan Bristol Fayre that happens every year. Thousands of people enjoyed going to that this year and enjoyed tasting the delicious vegan food on offer there. I have belonged to vegan groups and so I know many vegan people. I used to go on vegan picnics every summer before I moved. A vegan diet is healthy and cruelty free.
