Wind chimes: Beautiful music or irritating to your ears.

About an hour ago a storm passed through here. The first sign I have besides my windows rattling are my neighbors wind chimes. Now I don't mind them at all. I think they have their own kind of music. My sister however thinks they are very irritating. How do you feel about wind chimes?

Beautiful music definitely. We have them hanging inside and outside. We even have one hanging from the ceiling fan and it makes a soft ringing sound constantly when the fan is going. The grandkids love them too. There is nothing that can compare with the smile on their face when I hold them up and let them ring the chime. lol I do recall once, one of them pulled one down on my head while I wasn't paying attention, I definitely heard ringing then.

I think gentle wind chime music is pretty and doesn't bother me what so ever. However, I really hate the sound of some wind chimes. Some of them just produce a real irritating sound, some produce a lovely sound. Just depends on the chime.

You are right about that....some sound like clanging others have a sweet little tinkle!

When there is only a breeze in the air I enjoy the sound of wind chimes. When a full on wind is going it annoys me greatly. Winds in Oklahoma get to ridiculous levels, so sometimes it is plain old aggravating. Any other time I enjoy it.

I can understand that...some of the bigger ones can be very noisy when it's windy.

I think that wind chimes are very soothing. Also, I am a sound sleeper...and if I have my windows open at night, the wind chimes making lots of "tinkles" means that a storm is coming and I should shut my windows. I suppose sometimes if you are sitting right next to them and can't hear what your company is saying...they would irratate someone. I cannot ever thing of a time when they irratated me so much that I would take them down.

I do like the twinkling sounds they make...I don't think there would be a time that it was so bad anyone would have to take them down. Thanks Karen.

I think windchimes sound so pretty when they occasionally blow around. To listen to them on a regular basis would get on my nerves. I mean if I could hear them all day or evening without a break.

It has been a long time since I have heard wing chimes. I guess if i don't hear them too long , they are okay.I fear if I heard them over and over again I would get sick of them.

I love wind chimes and would love to have a real pretty sounding one on my back patio. I do agree that some are sort of bad on the ears and then others are beautiful sounding.

I don't mind them at all. I was just talking yesterday about one I would like to make using a cappuccino mug. I also saved a bunch of old silverware from my husbands grandmother and might make one with that, too.

for some reason, for me it depends on the time of day! at night time its really nice or when its raining its nice. if its on a hot summer day where irritation can occur then that the time i just wish not to hear it at the moment!

I used to have some wind chimes and I find them quite soothing especially the ones made from wood rather than metal or crystal ones, but I suppose if someone had lots of them they could get annoying. Ellie :D

If I don't get the wind chimes all tangled up when I hang them_ I do like the way they sound. However, I am noise senstive and I can't listen to them all day long. What was the name of that movie where the wind chimes alerted the aunt in the story that a tornado was coming?

Yes..the wooden ones have a different sounds. I don't like the big ones that clang together!
