What do you do to increase gas mileage?

I've heard to keep your air filter clean, check for correct air pressure in your tires, make stopping and starting smoother, cut out the leadfoot (don't speed!), group your errands together
...but what else are you doing? The ethanol already makes the average car get 25% less fuel mileage (especially if your vehicle isn't designed for it)
. So what sorts of things would you recommend?

all of the above, plus find out from the mechanic or the car dealer what would be the optimum cruising speed to get the best mileage, and try and maintain that speed ove long distances.
I drive long distance - I was born and bought up in Mumbai (Bombay) and moved to Bangalore about 9 years ago. I drive often between the two cities in a small car. In the city the car gives me an average distance of 15 kms (about 9 miles) per liter (1000 cubic centimeters) without the air conditioning switched on. With air conditioning its about 10 percent less . On the highway, where I can maintain a constant speed which could be even 15 kms per hour higher (9-10 mph) than the optimum speed, I get an average distance of 20 to 22 kms per liter sometimes even with the air conditioning on.

Wow, your gas mileage is very poor compared to what we're expected to have here in the United States--good gas mileage is anywhere from 15 to 30 in the city and 20+ on the highway. That's in Miles Per Gallon. The low end is for larger or older vehicles, and doesn't really take into consideration if it's high performance or a hybrid. I'm not sure how big my current gas tank is--I know I'm spending about $42 to $46 each time I fill up, but I try not to have the fuel light come on! I drive a mix--now that I'm driving someone to work, he's paying me extra money (it's a 30-mile round trip each day). It helps a lot during this time. Thanks for sharing!

Here are the conversions:
One US Gallon is 3.785 liters - Check the link for confirmation:
http://www.metric-conversions.org/volume/gallons-conversion.htm
That means that you get an average of 12.68 KM per liter for the small car (30 miles per gallon)
I get about 35.48 miles per US gallon in the city, and the roads are bad and choked with traffic. This is without air conditioning switched on.
Gas (Petrol) costs in India are about Rs.52-Rs.60/- per liter (US$1.3 to 1.5) or US$4.92 to US$5.68 per US gallon. A tank fill up means about 8 gallons for a small car or US$39.36 to US 45.62.

Thanks for the conversion link! You definitely get great gas mileage; I have an SUV for two reasons: 1) I can no longer lift myself out of smaller, lower cars due to repetitive damage to my legs from MS and 2) I haul a lot of stuff to do my in-home parties, so I need the space. Take care friend!
