The United Nations - What do we need it for?

May 7, 2008 11:52am CST
What's the point of the United Nations? Does it serve a real function, or is it just an expensive talking shop? What has the United Nations done to improve the world? When it was set up, it was supposed to prevent wars - does it seem to you that it's doing that job? Should it be disbanded? What do you think?

I guess that at the time it was created it was a good idea - at least in theory - however, in reality it has caused nothing but more trouble and corruption. And Yes, it is just another wasted government expense. I really believe that it should be disbanded, and really do not see any good purpose that it serves at this point.

Yes the U.N should be disbanded. Not one country should give up its own sovereignty to anything. To me there is no difference between the U.N and the League of Nations. I think we should quit sending the U.N money. The U.N is just a big waist of money.

Yes, it's always been a bit of a puzzle to me. The League of Nations failed, so they replaced it with an organisation that was basically a carbon copy.
