I love animals..But...

I am a true animal lover of all kinds. In my back yard I have several bird feeders and bird houses. I love feeding the birds and watching them when we are sitting outside. Sometimes when feeding them, they are higher in the trees just watching me. A few of the chick-o-dees will still be feeding while I am filling up some of the other 12 feeders I have. I am blessed with a variety of visitors to my feeders: bright red cardinals, yellow finches, tufted tit mouses, red headed and spotted woodpeckers, blue birds (rare around here), blue jays, robins, a hawk and many more. I even have a set of mallard ducks now. We enjoy them all and so do the friends and family that come to our home and sit out back with us. We now have another visitor and this one I am not happy with. Our neighbor's cat. He hides and pounces on the birds and eats them. I was just outside freshening up the water in the bird bath and fountain and I spotted feathers on the ground. Then I noticed the cat under the brush licking at it's paws, it just got done feeding on his kill. This is not the first time and I already mentioned it to the owner and he laughed and said that it got a small rabbit the other day to. This angered me to no end. I told him that the next time it happened I was going to trap the cat and take it to the humane society and claim it as a stray. I just never told him which humane society I would go to. Now that the time has come to set the trap, I am not sure I can go threw with it. What do you think I should do? I do not want to supply this cat with birds, as it is there is one missing a mate and eggs that may never hatch.

First of all, I do not think you have any right to trap the neighbors cat and take it to the Humane Society. What do you imagine will be accomplished by this action? Your neighbor will lose a pet and it will probably be euthanized. The cat did nothing wrong that it knows of. It is a cat and those are it's natural instincts. As far as you being an animal lover (of all kinds) I must ask, are you also a meat eater? If so, why is it okay for you, but not that cat to eat other animals? If not, then I apologize for making that assumption. I hope you do not take offense to this comment, those are my thoughts and that is what you asked for, so there they are...

Thank you for your honesty and yes I am a meat eater. It is just a shame that I have to deal with this cat in my yard. If I wanted a cat as a pet I would go out and get one. It is not my intent to harm or kill the cat, I just want it out of my yard and away from my bird feeders.

Again, I Thank-You for your comments and I do agree with you. Pet cats do belong inside as dogs belong on leashes. I have had pet cats, dogs, birds, fish and the list goes on. My cats were indoors unless and accidental escape once in a while. I have had another discussion with the neighbor and he seemed to understand and has been keeping the cat indoors. We shall see what happens. P.S. I also planted catnip so may be he will play with that instead of the birds.
