I was always told by my dad that being gay was a natural condition that could not be helped. when i was 12, my newly appeared 'uncle' Rupert told me the same thing when he came to stay for 7 months before leaving after an arguement. now i am confused as i have answered a discussion that asked if playing tennis was a sign of being gay! i love tennis. (but not in that way) i have read other responses in discussions that say it is a choice. please let me know what you think and i will be sure to reply.

That discussion was absurd! Tennis is the exact OPPOSITE of gay! In tennis, the guys hit the balls with rackets to get them away from them. Everyone knows gay guys love balls, and therefore would not be trying to hit those balls away. PS... I WISH being gay was a choice. Then I could make you choose to be gay and we could move to South Beech and live happily ever after.

Anyone who insists that being gay is a choice should be asked when they chose to be straight. Hopefully that would shut them up. Sheesh! Playing tennis is a sign of being gay? LOL! I wonder how John McEnroe would've reacted to that statement back in the day?

Heh, for the best answer, Tee mostly has it. BUT I don't think that tennis is a sign of being gay..there really aren't alot of signs unless you're FLAMINGLY gay, and there are those of course, but most gay people are just your average Joes, so there's not alot of signs. If you want definitive: you like guys and not women in the romantic sense. The end, lol. But as the lady with the best response said, technically the word means to be happy. Remember the song, "I feel so witty, so pretty, and gaaaay"...? Same diff. One of my favorite pictures has this text on it: "You gay f@g! I just called out a happy bundle of sticks!" Oh words and there many meanings in the english language over time...lmao.

Matters of sexuality and gender are situated mostly in the brain and not in the pants. That explains why people born with out definable genitalia can identify his or her self as male or female. * Just what makes a person gay, genetic, environment, or simple inclination can not be easily answered either as we simply do not know a whole lot about the Human brain and how it develops in the womb, through childhood, then into adulthood. * One thing I can certainly state is that liking a certain thing such as tennis doesn't make one gay. Tennis is as full of extracurricular activity as football. * A list of male tennis pros http://nostalgia.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male_Tennis_Professionals

I wouldn't worry about playing tennis, I've known a lot a tennis players, including one of the best (now former) senior amature players who was anything but gay. He lovingly cared for his sick wife for years.

I don't think it is a natural condition. A man becoming a gay starts during the early stages of childhood when the parents, particularly the mother dresses him and make him a girl. The father who does not rule his house well or is absent from the home can't do anything to stop. Therefore, as the child grew, he will have the inclination of being gay because he was taught to be. It already becomes a choice for him and many times it's difficult for him to change, so he would rather be gay. I know of a man who was gay before but when he trusted Christ as his Savior and Lord, he changed much. Now, he is a man!

i did not realise gay people had been dressed in womans clothing. that explains a lot. i work with a gay man. i shall ask him tomorrow at work when we have our 'power scrunching' meeting with the staff if his mother dressed him in cute skirts and if he still wears nice dresses. it will be interesting to know if he wears designer or of the rack. i look forward to letting you know how i get on.

i think it is not biological. its more of environmental and influences. i have seen a person who was not gay when we were growing up. he came to have gay friends, it was nothing serious at first.. he then started to spend more time with them... next thing we know he was already acting so feminine... hehe

I'm Confused Xboxboy....I thought you were so cool too.... this topic kind of sounds Malicious. Is this an honest question? Are you generally wondering ? Or are you trying to hurt people? I am really mixed up here. I will answer with this....Does it Matter why people are the way they are , or...moreover.....how does it affect your life? Please understand....this is By no means an attack on you.....I am truly inquiring as to why this is an issue at all. And seriously ....I have to ask.....what does Sports have to Do with any of this? I used to run Marathons ( a predominately Male Sport ) I am Very Much Into guys , But would it Bother you if I were in to Chicks? Please help me out Dear.....what is your point here? Confused..........

Dear Dfn....you're absolutely right....I did not give him a Fair Chance....this is true.....But his Opening words ....they way they were placed.... perhaps this sparks a nerve with me .....It sounded cold ....to the point of almost Cruel and I just lost it from that point. Perhaps I was Rash , But then again perhaps he could have worded this topic with a little more CAring.

i think it's neither biological nor choice. i personally believe that it is the society and the environment that affect the person to be gay. We can't say it is biological because there is no way that a new born child is gay. And if we are talking about choice, i think no one wants to be ridiculed and discriminated. It is just that some or maybe a lot of people turned to become gay because they let themselves to be "gays". What i mean is that they permitted the environment change who they really are NATURALLY. I still believe that there really are only two beings in this world--the man and the woman, no one in between. But i respect their choice to give in to what the environment has made them. I don't want to say that they are wrong but I think they should have tried harder to remain who they naturally are. Let me share this quote: "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you someone else is the greatest accomplishment" -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

How can you say that a newborn cannot be gay? Can we say that a newborn cannot be lefthanded because he/she cannot write yet? Your statement makes absolutely no sense to me.

Your theory is flawed, and here is why. My boyfriend was raised in a Catholic family, in what might be called the "American Dream" setting. Two parents, father business proffesional, mom was June Clever. Church twice a week, older brother who plays sports, dog, white picket fence. The works. His family cut off communication with him about 2 years ago because he is gay. He told them he was gay twice while growing up. They ignored him. Finally he moved in with me and they wont have anything to do with him. -I- didnt make him gay. His parents didnt make him gay. His church didnt make him gay. The teachers at his Catholic School certainly didnt want him to be gay. How then, could his "environment" have made him gay? And how then did he turn out gay when his brother got the SAME upbringing as him, but turned out straight?

I can say I honestly don't think it's a choice. No one is sure why people are gay, but I don't think a lot of people would put themselves in the position to be ridiculed or hurt by others if they could help it. My best friend is gay, and he tried to deny it for a long time. I don't see how it could be a choice, at least not for most. Anymore it's just one more thing that gets people beat up in an unfair world, and I don't know why someone would make that choice if they could help it, but IDK I can't quite find words for all of my opinions on the matter, that's the best I could do.

LOL. Agent Orange was a specially developed herbicide used to defoliate the jungles of Vietnam during the war. It was called Agent Orange, because of the orange banding on the drums it was shipped in. Marines claim now that it has caused cancer and other ailments from exposure to it. Funnily enough, other drums were banded in different colors - and Agent Pink was the name for one of them! LOL

Tennis? Yeah, right. My mother is gay. She came out of the closet when I was 13 yrs old. She has had the same life partner for 30 yrs. More stable than most heterosexual couples that I know. Anyway. My understanding of it is that you are just wired that way. Nothing you can do about it. You cannot CHANGE someone, and people don't 'turn' gay after bad experiences with relationships either. IT IS NOT A CHOICE YOU MAKE.

How right you are AnnieOakley - some people seem to think that a person can be turned gay by various experiences, or that their sexuality is a conscious choice. A gay person has no more been "turned" gay, than a straight person has been "turned" straight. I used to know somebody who wouldn't let their next door neighbour (an adult) play football with her son, becaues the neighbour was gay and she feared he'd "convert" her son to homosexuality!!!!! No amount of trying to explain to her would convince her, that if her son is going to be gay he will anyway, and if he's going to be straight he will anyway, regardless of the neighbour who would in no way be able to change her son's sexuality.

Hi x In life there is no reason things just are. Some people are just gay. It's the way they feel and that is that. I do not believe there are any definite reasons for why a person feels the way they do. Liking tennis has nothing to do with it either....Mamablaze!!

It's biological and genetic. In any family, if their is one homosexual there are more, or perhaps a bi or two. I have 5 gay men in my gene line that I know of. And there is one aunt who is questionable.

It's biological. I have a couple of gay cousins and an gay uncle and my mom always says "being gay runs in the family" lol they do not know i am gay tho... not yet anyway. lol For some it may very well be a choice but It is biological. My cousin who is gay.. I knew he was gay i think before he did! I've known since we were little but he would always deny it but when he was 16 he came out.

so you could decide to be gay if you wanted to?not sure how that works. when i was 7 i used to get a hard on watching alexandra bastedo in the 'champions' and did not know why i was erect. this tells me perhaps i have no control over my orientation. but i could be wrong.
