i think marcos was the best president this country ever had. he might be an autocrat, but it did good to the filipinos in a way that they were more disciplined, prosperous and most of all respected not only by their fellow countrymen but in the whole world. i can't see anyone who'll come close to this man as far as being a leader is concerned... he's definitely the best.

President Fidel Ramos is the BEST president. It was he who allocated 20% of the budget to research and technology and it was during his term that industrialized countries started to look positively on our country; only to be shattered to bits by erap. I'd consider marcos the WORSE president. It was his regime that glorified corruption, nepotism, fostered cronyism, and politicized the military. His regime started the muslim seccessionist movements and is responsible for thousands of human rights violations. He was nothing but a megalomaniac, and a cheap liar. It was during the marcos regime that the Philippines started to be overrun by its asian neighbors. In fact, 90% of the problems that we have right now, from foreign debt to poverty ARE to be blamed on the facist marcos.

i'm sorry that we don't share the same point of view. but i suggest you ask people around you and majority, if not all, will tell you the same. as for ramos, i think he's a poor second-rate copy-cat of marcos... sorry... those human rights violations you are saying? why don't you ask somebody who knows what's ramos' rank in the military that time... and about marcos' regime being overran by asian neighbors? don't you know that WE are the ones who taught the vietnamese as far inovation in agriculture is concerned. i suggest you check http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/nation/view/20080426-132782/Marcos-Masagana-99-made-RP-rice-exporter-self-sufficient

Poor copycat? President Ramos allocated the largest budget to research and development, among ALL presidents we have ever had. As I said, ALL presidents after marcos simply inherited the problems he created. Also, so what if we taught our asian neighbors how to cultivate rice efficiently? That's what's expected of an agricultural country back then. Big deal!!! It is during President Ramos's term that the country got on the map of high technology research publications. As for human rights violations, I think you ought to get MORE sources. In fact, the violations during marcos's time are grossly underrated because he had control over the media, just like Kim Jung Il has control over North Korean media. Besides, i see a LOT of fallacies and false assumptions in your statements. Try reading more about history, it's good for the soul.

i agree with you aiyreen. i think that MARCOS is the best president we Filipinos ever had. he is very intelligent and with a good heart. Marcos emerged from World War II with the reputation of being the greatest Filipino resistance leader of the war and the most decorated soldier in the U.S. Armed forces. President Marcos will always be the BEST president for me.

I remember reading an editorial article in inquirer that says, "Thanks to GMA, Ferdinand is still the best president" Troughout these years, we have been longing for government reforms. Loren Legarda said our country needs healing. People power fought for democracy. Fidel Ramos envisioned Philippines 200. But where are we now? Our neigboring countries, Thailand and Vietnam are getting way over us. Our useless presidents and government leaders are only up to themselves. I even overheard some Filipinos in Thailand airport saying Marcos is still the best president. Our dear country is going down the drain. It breaks me heart. This poem is very appropriate for us Filipinos. Huwag muna, Rizal, huwag muna. Huwag Ka munang mahimbing. Libo pang ilog and dapat tawirin. Libo pang bundok ang dapat akyatin. Huwag muna, Rizal, huwag muna. Huwag ka munang manahimik. Kailangan ng bayan ang bagong dugo, Na handang ibuhos … sa kalayaan.

No question on Marcos being an intelligent and good president. he may have done worst decision but no one can ever say that he has done nothing to improve our economy during his office tenure. actually, it is in his administration that the Philippines ranks second to Japan in terms of economical standards, thus dubbed us Tiger Economy in Asia. But we cannot also deny the fact that such intelligence may lead to decisions that are not carrying majority to a fair and just move. Sometimes, intelligence eats up a person heart, thus making him or her numb. The problem is this: I personally believe that Filipinos sometimes, tend to envy their compatriots that is to be found really outstanding on his work, and when they spot even the most impossible hole of imperfection, there is the time of an end to the person, that's the result of envy.

I agree with you 100%. No matter what other people say about him being a dictator, corrupt, thief, etc., i still think he is the best president this country ever had. You just take a look at our country now. It was worse more than ever. The 4 presidents after him are more corrupt. I remember before his projects like the Green Revolution. We always do tree planting during our elementary days that's why when you travel north, it's always a breeze because of the tall trees planted on each side of the road. Now, you will see that there's no more trees on the roadside making it hot when traveling. Marcos is really the best.
