What is the best way to lose weight?

United States
November 1, 2006 4:46pm CST
I recently have decided to get myself into better shape. I mean personally I'm not overweight or anything, I just don't feel as though I'm where I want to be. I just was curious about different people's routines they use. To lose weight, and yet gain muscle at the same time. Anybody out there who can help me with this on MyLot?

Watch what you eat (stick to the food pyramid) and get plenty of exercise.

Any specific tips aside from that. I mean could you be a bit broader on what to do. What kind of routine to have and such?

No, really, that's all there is to it. Everyone else focuses on a specific diet or workout but I've found using common sense (eat a carrot instead of a candy bar for a snack, drink water instead of soda, go for a walk instead of sitting on the couch) works best.

I do my best to make sure that I stick to certain foods. Try not to go overboard with snacking, or none at all. I also try to make some of my own meals, so I can avoid certain foods.

See what you Eat... Avoid junk foods and drinks. Always carry a fruit in your bag, and if you ever feel hungry eat the fruit. And YES drink plenty of water more than 9-10 glass. Have food on the right time. At night See that you have something really light food like soup or salad, and make sure that you have 3-4 hours of gap before you go to sleep. Excersise is also a must to keep your body fit and healthy. Take care and all the very best.

I want to help you but I do not know anything else to say that is unique from what the previous posters had told you. I however know of a particular natural remedy to your situation which is gaining popularity on the internet right now. I say this because I have seen it promoted in various sites and many have good testimonies about it. Please send me a PM if you would like to know this remedy.

I had the best success with Medifast. If you're interested in reading more about it you can visit their website at www.medifast1.com. I found it to be really easy to follow and stick to, and I wasn't hungry.

I'm going to start dieting and exercising next week. I've come up with a good meal plan, or it'll work for me anyways. In the morning I'll have one of those South Beach Diet breakfast bars, and then for a snack later on a South Beach Diet snack bar, and then around lunchtime a Lean Cuisine sweet and sour chicken meal, then a few hours later, a South Beach Diet snack bar and then for dinner, another Lean Cuisine dinner. I totaled all of that up and it's only around 900 calories and 16g of fat, which most people say in order to properly lose weight, you should maintain under 1500 calories per day. So with diet and exercise, I hope to lose the weight I want to get off.

Sounds like you have your meals planned out well. What type of exercise, I've started walking with weights in my hands. I am going to be doing that every day.

Excercise - excercise
I actually don't know what my exercise plan is going to consist of yet. I just recently paid for my membership in the apartments I live in, and they have a place to work out. So I'm thinking it'll be something like doing walking/jogging on the treadmill and weights to strengthen my arms and legs.

Here is the best diet ever! You can eat whatever you want, no restrictions! How it works is by lowering your "set point". A set point is like a thermostat in a house. If your set point is 200 lbs., for example, anytime you get under 200 lbs. you are gonna feel hungry and all you will think about it food and you will eat your way back up to 200 lbs. in no time . . . the good news . . . you can lower your set point a half point a day by doing the Shangri-La Diet (by Seth Roberts) which is basically by eating a zero set point food twice a day, being oil. Not just any oil, it has to be tasteless oil, not virgin olive oil, it has a strong taste, but extra light olive oil (eloo) or refined walnut oil or even sugar water if you are adverse to oil. The trick is that you don't eat or drink anything with a taste, no gum, cough drops, toothpaste, or anything for one hour before and one hour after the oil. Depending on your weight, but most people are a tablespoon of oil twice a day. I put a little water in a glass, add my oil to it, and plug my nose to be sure I don't taste anything, and drink it down. It is not going to happen overnight, but as your set point lowers, your appetite lowers too and you will eventually reach your goal weight, effortlessly! Also, if you are a mountain dew addict, the new diet mountain dew is so good you would not know it was diet unless you read the label! The Shangri-La Diet book is available on the website http://www.shangriladiet.com and if you join the website you get lots of online support. I've made two really good friends from the website! Good Luck!

I don't really have any advice, but I'm glad you posted this. I'm a freshman in college and have started gaining the dreaded freshmen 15. I'm not happy with it at all, and I'm going to try really hard to get some of it off before I go home for Thanksgiving (16 days, yikes!). so far my tactics have been working out a lot at my school's gym. I had been jogging, but now I'm doing bicycling and that stair-stepping machine. if you want to work on your stomach, crunches are amazing. I've done them three days in a row and have already noticed a difference. other than that, I agree with everyone else -- stay away from soda, too many desserts and sugars, and snacking. I personally have an awful sweet-tooth, but I've been trying to decrease the amount of sweets I eat because I know that's why I'm gaining the weight. It's all about the will power! let me know if any of the other suggestions in this discussion are useful for you! I'd love some more advice.

Dieting and exercise is the key to losing weight. Eating fruits and salads for me worked as well as exercising. Doing a lot of cardio exercise will help.

I love the way that everybody repeats what the last person says. This is like a really annoying forum, where people can't add something. They just have to throw in the obligatory response to make money. Thanks for the "effort".

Bottomline watch what you eat and excerise, skip the junk food & soda. A good program that works is weight watchers, you do not have buy foods from their programs but it teaches you how to eat correctly. Good luck.

I believe in the protein diet. Lean protein can help u lose and keep the desired wait. Also keep off those carbs after 3pm
