My 15 year old grand daughter is in 10th grade this year, she is in ROTC, which is a military program for kids. This is her second year, she also is in the color guard for them. She marches in all the parades and presents the colors at the ball games for her school. She gets to participate in openings around town and she has gotten to go to Washington D C and this year she got to go to Colorado to climb Pike' Peak. This seems like a good program, it keeps them off the streets and they have so much fun. Do any of your children participate in ROTC at school. What do you think of the program?

I did not even know there was an ROTC program for kids. Is it just extracurricular activities? Do they learn about the army or anything? I don't know how I feel about it, it sounds like a pretty good program, but I am afraid they are trying to brainwash kids into joining the army or something! Haha I am paranoid...

First of all it keeps them busy and off the streets, it teaches them morals, obedience, they have a choice to join after graduation if they want they will go in at a higher rank, I have no problem if she wants to join up. I think a stint in the service would do them all good. I know there is Iraq, but hopefully it will be over by the time they get out of school. It is a really good program I think, and they get to go so many places she would never get to see had it not been for ROTC, they help our with painting houses for the elderly and do things for the disabled, so they are really in a good program. Would you not want your child to join the service?

I would not care what my kids did, but I will not be having any so it is a moot point. Anyway, I was not implying that the army is bad or anything, just that I have a fear of brainwashing and propoganda by any organization out there....

ROTC is a great program for the kids in high school. My grandson has been in for 3 years now. He graduates this year. The program is also a regular class. My grandson got to go to Washing ton too this last year.It can give them some idea of what the military can be about. It also gives them responsibility with leadership too. For my grandson it was better than the marching band which is to teach some of the same things but the ROTC kids are a different caliber.

I think that anything that is good and character forming is great for children to do, we need much more programs of this caliber in our schools.
