I was watching a tv programme on losing weight, and apparently in victorian times they used this method...chew each mouthful 32 times over!!!! Well i tried chewing my one mouthful of toast 32 times and it just vanished, plus my jaws were aching!!!!...you try it and see!!

Maybe that is why we were so skinny when we were kids. My mom always insisted we did this. I think it helps you feel full sooner, but when we were kids it was probably so that we didn't choke.

I guess this would work quite well as a method of weight control. Firstly, think of all those calories you'd burn up in the jaw department. Then there's the time taken to do it. By the time you've chewed your first couple of mouthfuls 32 times, you'll be bored rigid and wanting to leave the table to go off and do something else! And of course the rest of your meal will be stone cold which will put you off eating it somewhat. So it does sound very sensible ;-) But of course, exercise leads to an increase in muscle mass. Are you really aiming for that square jawed look? What's the point of having a slim body if you need to wear a bag on your head because you've developed jaws like Bugs Bunny? Hang on ... slim body ... Bugs Bunny ... Hey, you could be Jessica Rabbit :-)

Now look ere Moo..kindly keep Jessica out of it..lolno I just dont see it working for me..im admitting im a buxom wench, but the buxom bit is staying there and thats that..and the end of it...if I chewed each mothful 32 times id be in bed with exhaustion after every meal!!!

I tried chewing my food 25 times and that was too long for me so I can't imagine doing it 32 times. No wonder they lost weight, there isn't anything left to swallow.

Yes I have heard this said to me many a time as a child and I still cannot work it out today, it is a daft thing to say and even dafter to try and do!! I always chew my food properly though, the other thing that I have heard is to brush your hair 100 times, I tried it once and my scalp was red raw by the time I had finished. We believed in some pretty odd things back in those days.
