This happened to me today.....

My daughter, grand-daughter and I stopped at a pizza buffet for dinner. I gave the cashier my debit card to pay for dinner and then she handed the ticket to me to sign. I asked for a pen and DUH! the pens were in a cup right under my nose. She just pointed to them. I jokingly said, " You should have said open your eyes." She smiled and said, "No, I am not paid to be a smart-alec, I'm paid to be sweet." WOW! I was stunned. I told her that she had made my day and I appreciated how sweet she was. Now, isn't it great when you meet someone so sweet and treats you like you are somebody and not like a number? I just thought that was super! tell me what you think.

that was really nice. i find that a lot of people even in the service industry are not all that nice to the public, but once in awhile you get someone that makes your day! glad you found one today! :-)

I can understand that that would make you feel good. There really is nothing better when you are out and about than to have a nice friendly person serving you. Unfortunately this does not happen often enough so enjoy it while you can.

No, it doesn't happen often. Sometimes it is as hard as pulling a tooth to get a store employee to even smile at me. LOL Thanks for the post.

woww... you are so lucky to find somebody so nice... it is not easy to find someone as nice as that nowadays... especially in today's world where there are so many rude people around... meeting people as nice as that hardly comes by nowadays... so well done and good on you to meet such a nice person who treats you like a person... i will definitely make a nice comment about her to her manager so that she can be promoted... have a nice day...

I work in retail and I am paid for the whole customer service aspect. I am usually as nice as I can be to all customers, go up to them and ask if they need anyhting, have a smile on my face. But really, if someone is as disrespectful as I have experience, they just dont deserve that kinda service. I wont be mean, I wont refuse to serve them, but I also wont go over the top and try to help them out. Some customers expectations are wayyy to high. I cant control prices, so please dont yell at me for them. I cant read your mind and Im doing the best I can with the info youve given me, please dont get mad at me for not knowing exactly what you want.

Oh, yes, there can be some rude customers also. I think we as customers, have to be just as kind to the ones that is waiting on us. Thanks for the post and I'm sure you are very sweet even to those that don't deserve it. LOL

hi cathie. that was real nice. often times we encounter rude sales people. if they're not holding up the counter, they give lousy service. very seldom do we get good customer service from people who are payed to give such. i used to work in the retail industry and honestly, i can say that i've always tried my best to go the extra mile for the benefit of the customer.

She does sound really nice, that is so cool!! It's so hard to find anyone that is nice in places anymore, sometimes some of them are downright sour and I wonder how they keep their jobs so whenever someone is nice, it's a real treat!

that's sweet and courteous. ive never encountered a bad-tempered sales girl yet. besides, why would they be rude and unfriendly to customers if they should be nice to them and they get paid for it? the only exception would be if its the time of the month. most women are cranky during that time.

Gee, that sounds like me. For some reason I can't see things in plain sight...I do have so much fun kidding with the sales people when that happens-or when it happens to them. Of course I'm the kind of person that when I go out shopping I go to have fun, and I have the most wonderful time with sales people who will join in the fun with me. I worked for 15 years in sales in various stores and always made sure that my customers had a good time and felt good when they left. What a lot of sales people never realize is that their jobs depend on customers coming back, and the nicer you are to them the more likely they are to come back. Also the customer gets a huge thrill when the sales person remembers them. If the sales people can make the shoppers experience memorable and bring them back, be nice to them and make them smile. When I left retail a few years ago I had customers calling me at home and telling me how much they missed me.

It's wonderful when your out somewhere and people are nice. I really appreciate it. A lot of places, the clerks or other employees just ignore you. If not that, then are are just downright rude. So when someone is nice, I really try to hang on to that memory! :)

Yes, that was nice of her. Some times the cashier can be really ill and you can tell it by how they treat you. Now has she said something smart you would have gotten mad at her for that. But she did the right thing and was nice about it. I even bet that she is nice to the ugly customers too.

It is nice to have someone come across nice instead of a smartmouth once in awhile! It is great when someone makes your day. I try to treat others the way I would like to be treated.

What surprises me is that she realizes what she's being paid for. One of my pet peeves is people who think they're doing their employers a favor by being there. They think their job is to hold up the counter, and they think customers are disturbing them. I get so irritated when I recieve bad service like this, but sadly it has become the norm. I wish there were more customer service employees like the one you met.

Yes, unfortunately, there are those that make you feel like you are bothering them and after all that is what they are being paid for. Really we are paying their salary if we spend at the place. Thanks for posting.

It's nice that she was nice like she was. It's not often do you get to many people like that. Some people just don't happen to look on the counter for a pen I know I don't. I just started carrying one w/ me in my pouch that I carry around my waist. The last time I needed a pen the guy was sarcastic and said to me "any closer it would bite you" there was one single pen laying right next to the register. I half smiled took the pen and filled out my check and put it back where it was. I felt like he was rude about it.

That is always a Good feeling when you find people like this, and are treated with respect instead of someone just assuming you should always know where things are. I know when I go places and I am treated better like this, it makes me feel a lot happier, and want to be served by that person again. This is truly a lesson that many could learn something from.

wow! That's cool, Im ny observation this time, not every one working in any restaurants or malls are having the same attitude which in the first place, they should possess because they are dealing with people whom they are getting their income! SO, i really appreciate that attitude and may she will be a good influence to all of her friends and co-workers! I also personally try to be nice and wonderful to all the people i encounter because i wanted too to be treated that way!

I think that is great. its hard to come across someone that is actually nice. I have done that before, asked for a pen and it was right in front of me. I tried to jokingly play it off, and the person behind the counter just looked at me like I really was an idiot. lol. but you just have one of those days sometimes. glad you had a good experience. I hope there are many more to come.
