You can't let your children out of your site

For those of us in our 40s and 50s. We remember the days when you could wander the neighborhood and not worry about being snatched off the street. I know it happened back then, but it wasn't an epidemic like it is now. We would come in from school, change our clothes, grab a snack, run out the door to find our freinds and play till dark, or a least till supper. It wasn't a big deal back then to wander half a mile or so from home. When we did finally drag in, our family wasn't scared to death waiting by the phone to put out an Amber Alert. How do you feel when your in a store and see a small child wandering around the toy department with no adult supervision. Or a little kid riding their bike up and down the sidewalk near a busy street, agian with no adult supervison? It makes my skin crawl. I automaticly wonder if someone else has noticed the child, and will it make it home for thier supper this night.

It is not safe any more for your children to be out of your site. I can remember my Mom and Dad letting us run the neighbor hood and they never worried about us because they knew we were safe. Where have those days gone. The kids can't go outside just in their own yard and the parent has to worry about if someone is going to grab them from the yard. It is a sad day when our children are in danger no matter whether they are down the street, in a store or simply in their own back yard.

I agree completely. And in some places you hear where these sickos will actually crawl through an open window and take the child. Makes me shudder

Not only could we play out until dark my g-mother would let me and my friend wander around until midnight and not worry if we were alright. I live in the same place as we did then and i wont let my kids go to the store down the street. It sits in the same place as the one we used to walk to several times a day. And yes when i see a kid in a store wandering around i have actually found a store employee and let them know. Even if the kid is 6 or 7 yrs. old i will keep an eye on them until an adult shows up. The things that can happen to a child terrifies me and maybe i'm just overprotective of children in general because i do tend to notice them if no adult is around.

I've never found an employee, but I have lingered around until the person the kid belonged to showed up.
