I just dont understand people. Why they do crazy things such as this and then had 7 kids by her.The wife said she didnt know anything about it.She said she thought her daughter had disappeared after recieving a letter that supposed to been from her daughter saying not to go looking for her.I'm sorry if it was my child I would have reported that letter to the police. You can check it out here: http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSL2727651520080427?sp=true

I heard about this in another discussion about last week. I think this guy is very sick and mental, he needs to be locked away for the rest of his life. I believe they said the father locked her up at the age of 12 (to keep her for himself since she was the prettier daughter).. If I had a 12 year old daughter who wrote me a note saying she wasn't coming home and don't look for her, I surely wouldn't just accept that. she's 12! I'd be searching high and low and contacting the police and anywhere I think she might be.. and if I'm not allowed in a certain part of my house (even if I wasn't missing a child) now being "allowed" there is just gonna make me want to go check it out to see what he is hiding from me. he'd been bringing food and stuff down there. and then to find out he and his wife raised 3 of the children, it's just absolutely crazy. maybe she didn't know what was going on, but I'd be very curious about this guys actions if I was her. can you imagine what this lady and her kids have to go through now. how much adjusting it's going to take to get use to this world. they've been trapped for so long, her since she was a child and them their entire lives. none of them I bet even have a clue. that is one sick, sick man. I pray for those kids and the for the daughter/mom. and I pray that the sick hospitalizes daughter gets fully recovered and they all live happy and normal, free lives from now on.

i read the whole story and i say this is sick!! i got so mad with the parents specially with the mother...how could she be so blunt with her daughter and just let her write a note and say don't look for her...if she really has concern for her child then no matter what its stated she will still look for her and report it to police...she could have known better...dang this kind of people! how on earth could a father do this to his own daughter...he maybe a psycho...fathering children from his own child..its making me sick...

I had seen this on the news a out a week ago I think. I am with you on that I would have reported it to the police and would have not stopped looking for my child. My child would have to tell me to my face not to speak or contact her anymore. I would have had to know if she were really alive or if a kidnapper had made her send me that letter.

I really don't know what to say about this article. I can't comprehend how she did not even once look for her own daughter after receiving that note let alone NOT know what was going on in her basement. Unless she was abused herself and threatened for her life and was told not to ever venture downstairs. I've heard a lot of stories over the years and I think she was subject to abuse herself - that's the only excuse I can come up with because no mother would not look for their child? or am I wrong in thinking that. This story is very upsetting. Her daughter, her children, aargh i feel sick!

Hi dischavic! Oh yes, I have heard about it on the news and have red it here too with some of our friends. I do agree with you that if it was my daughter missing and even though she has left a letter saying not to look for her, I will still be reporting it to the police. Even though that husband of his may have threatened me not to look for her, I will defy him because my child is my child and I will do anyhting just to find her. Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day!

yes i read about the story, i think that man was mad, insane, out of his mind. it makes me groce, really. There is no way they can recover the lost life of his dauhter, wife, and the children that were also locked up in the basement. It`s really sad that these things happen in the 21 century.

how do you know she didn't, anyway if the doctor was an adult, the police oftentimes do not pursue it because adults can make there own decisions.

This man must be insane for doing this to his own flesh and blood. I can't understand why people do such horrible things like this to people. Espically to his own daughter. I hope he spends a life time sentence in jail if not worser. I hate people that do insect or rape.

I read about this a while ago and the father was a monster. Even the neighbors were afraid of him. He would have killed his wife if she had spoken up against him. He probably kept her locked in the house and watched what she was doing all the time. It also says that she disappeared as well. Who knows whether her husband killed her and they might dig up her body somewhere?

Yeah I read that and it sickens me. what I don't get is, If the daughter was held captive and they had 7 children how could he (the father) managed that if he held her captive and to think for 24 long years. For the sake of argument let's assume that she was held captive, I won't buy it that the father didn't had an accomplice. Who would take care of their children if he gone shopping? I mean if the father left and do some chores then the daughter must have a free hand to attend to the need of their child and by that she had the chance to escape. She disappeared at age 16, which there is a level of maturity and intelligence. But if she is somewhat had disadvantage eg. mental problems then his manage could have managed it.

Yes it was disaster for this child i mean daghter of bustard and her childrens. First thing -she was wanted via Interpol around the world that mean police knew all the time about her dissapering. Other thing -the basement where she was imprisoned is a bunker with soundproof wals and it was build in case of nuclear war as this F***** claim for money from a local council what he obtained. I wish her all the best.

I had heard about that story and it made me very sad. It is scary what some people will do .. and to their own children! That man was severely messed up in the head. He had to be to think something like that was okay to do. I am not sure if I believe his wife knew about it or not. I feel that she may have been brainwashed by him either way. He was not stable and I doubt he wasn't showing any signs.. she had to know something was up with him. Very sad.

It is just really hard to believe that he could do this and no one knew, not even his wife. There had to be numerous things going on that would make one suspicious. Stories that the daughter had ran away and then periodically deposited children on their doorstep for them to raise - and the mother believed it all?

Yes everyone is talkig about this story. It chills me to the bone that a man can go to this extent for 'an obsession'. Apparantly he has said he knew it was wrong but couldn't stop himself. Digusting.

Is n't that awful! I heard about on the news. The is a sick and digusting case. How concerned was that mother for her daugther after receiving that letter I wonder? That man really needs psychiatric assistance. There are reaaly many many sich humans on this earth. That truly is a sad case.
