A little tidbit about peanuts

United States
May 9, 2008 4:41am CST
Agricultural chemist, George Washington Carver discovered three hundred uses for peanuts and hundreds more uses for soybeans, pecans and sweet potatoes. He started popularizing uses for peanut products including peanut butter, paper, ink, and oils beginning in 1880. However, Carver did not patent peanut butter as he believed food products were all gifts from God. It was Carver who made peanuts a significant crop in the American South in the early 1900's. So please share with me your favorite way to use peanut butter!!

Hi kimbers, Nice little factoid there. Well my favourite way to use peanut butter is in my homemade peanut butters bars treat. (they taste just like the Reese's peanut butter cups!) I usually make an 8 x 8 pan every week and actually went out and bought a jar of peanut butter today again!

My family likes to put peanut butter on hot pancakes before putting on the syrup. We also like a peanut butter sandwich once in a while. Peanut butter is good mixed with a banana too. It also makes a good pie.

My hubby was watching Rachel Ray one night and saw her peanut butter pancakes. Now when he whips up pancakes he adds peanut butter, they are so good. It tastes like you are eating a hot peanut butter cookie. Yummy!!!

Have you had the chance to make these yet? I might make them or have DH make them for breakfast on Sunday, that is if we still have electric. We are waiting for Hanna's arrival tomorrow, they are prediciting high winds and lots of rain.

its always neat to learn about how things were developed and used! We love peanut butter... Always run out with the big container every two weeks... as of late... only PEANUT BUTTER and jelly sandwiches... the girls seem to be eating that all the time for dinner! LOL Haven't been eating very healthy lately! Thanks for sharing Kim!

I love it in my ice cream! Of course the standard peanut butter and jelly sandwich is good, that's what I had for lunch today, and I have peanut butter or peanut butter and jelly on toast a lot. I sometimes put a streak of peanut butter in the batter when I'm baking brownies too.
