On what criteria do you rate any discussion or response?

Do you rate a discussion negative if you do not like it? Do you rate a response negative if the answer does not suit you or positive if it suits you? I rate a response positive when I can feel the sincerity behind it. I do not rate any response negative if it does not suit me.

I don't give negatives just because I disagree with that person's opinion. I will give negatives if the post was poorly written (and I mean beyond language barrier issues and spelling), if it is completely off topic (as if the responder didn't read what the discussion was about, or if it is mean and abusive. I will also give negatives to violations after I report them and also to those who have specifically asked to be rated negative.

Thank you.But I never knew that people would deliberately want to be rated lower. Earlier i too saw some discussion topics and read that the person was thrilled to see the star rate come down.I could not understand why.

Some good people have been hit hard by trolls so they want to rid themselves of their stars entirely. They want it to be on their terms not because of attacks from trolls. I am not one of them yet but I fully support their wishes.

Hi kalav56! No, I don't rate anyone negative. I rate them all positive even though I disagree with their views. I usually consider the effort they made on responding to my discussions or responses. But if the response is rude, I will just ignore it and don't rate it at all. Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day!

I only rated one discussion negative and that was months ago. The discussion was promoting violence and had several strange comments in it that lead me to believe it wasn't on the "up and up." Am thinking myLot eventually deleted it. Everyone deserves a positive rating if the discussion is written well. If I totally disagree with a response to a certain discussion, I simply won't rate it. Everyone has a different opinion and this doesn't mean my opinion is necessarily right.

You echo my sentiments. I too feel that every one who puts some heart and soul into the answer deserves a positive rating. I have found in some very rare cases that people get slightly piqued and show they are offended when a response is not to their taste. If people want diverse view points they would naturally get them in these forums. Agreeing to disagree in an amicable way is according to me the best policy. And I find that you are a very open minded person. In such cases it is easy to participate without fear of offence.Thank you very much for the response

I can disagree with what someone has put in a response and still give it a positive rating if it is well thought out and sincere. If I think a response is silly or not worth a positive rating I will just leave it unrated. I hardly ever give a negative rating. I think if people bother to write a reasonable response they deserve a positive rating.
