What do you think would happen if the oil dried up?

I'm listening to a talk show and the host just said that many experts believe that the Saudi oil fields are beginning to dry up. I looked in Google News and couldn't find anything about that but saw an article about the Russian oil fields drying up. What do you think will happen if oil becomes scarce or we use it up altogether? The U.S., Mexico and Canada all have oil, will they then begin to hold the kind of power over the rest of the world that the Saudi oil barons do now? Or will we all be reverting to bicycles and horses?

I don't think there's an oil shortage its just the "New World Order" trying to take control of our lives.I believe that the earth reproduces oil to help keep it's temperature stable, that why i believe that we will never run out of oil, but, there might in the near future just enough left to keep our planet's temperature stable like in say" Global Warming".Trust me the governments of this world already have other sources of energy waiting in the wings to take oil's place.

I have believed they have other energy sources for a long time, but they need to make all the money they can on the oil that we depend on now. They don't care about the planet or the people--they're "invent" a new energy source when they've gotten all they can from oil!

Hello, dragon! The way we are utilising the oil or other minerals one day it will go short and the industries and transport system would face near closure.so it is not strange news that the Saudi oil fields are being dried up.as in many countries the water table has gone deep so also the oik tables in the Arab countries might have gone down.but think of that day when the oil would not be available in the world,it will just be scarce in the market what will happen to us,and think how the big industries and the transport industry will run without oil.let us,therefore curtail its consumption and save oil for the future generation.thanx.

I agree with your idea of conservation! I've always done my best, mostly from economical reasons but I'm concerned now about the environment. Water is becoming more of a concern in many places, particularly China from what I hear.

Nowaday we have Biodiesel. Biodiesel refers to a non petroleum-based diesel fuel consisting of short chain alkyl (methyl or ethyl) easters, made by transesterification of vegetable oils or animal fats, which can be used "alone" or blended with conventional petrodiesel in unmodified diesel-engine vehicles. (source: Wikipedia) There are also NGV and LPV gas that can be used with cars nowaday. Moreover, many automobile companies already made hybrid vahicles and surely there will be a lot lot more in the future. Therefore, I don't think you need to be worried about that at all. Soon enough something even more advanced and hi-tech vehicles will soon be invented and will come to replace this type of car (petrol consumed), I believe. By the way, I heard from the radio about a month ago that a car company, not a 100% sure whether it was Mercedez company, can make a car that run by water already, but they still need to improve it, I guess. Have you heard about that?
