I remember when I was younger that I went to camp almost every summer with my friends church. We went together. My step dad took us and dropped us off and her parents picked us up and drove us home. LOL!! I went with her until I moved to Md. Then she continue to go and ended up doing the counsoler thing in the summer. here is a link to the camp I went .. http://www.wesleywoods.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=45&Itemid=68 I went for the advanced horseriding and the very last year we went on a trail ride around the alleghany mountain that was such a blast. I so miss doing stuff like that .. So I was looking at the site to see who I can send this year seems my katie would be the only one but now I need to come up with 403.00 for her to go if I send her. So I'm off to email them about fund raising to get a lower tuition becuase I know that is what we did. LOL!!! Are you sending your child to a summer camp this summer? If so what kind are you sending them to? Would you be willing to fund raise your childs tuition if it's to high???

I guess I am a kid myself, ok I am youth to be more spesific. I am going to summer camp this year, and have being there for 3 years now. Although I am going to a christian camp and not christian at all. But I miss mine friends in there and it's impossible to meet them all in another place then the camp. Because most of us live in different countries and would be hard to gather togheter. I enjoy summer camp ^^

See I'm not overly religious and Camp Wesley Wood is a religious camp .. But the fun and friends are all worth it. I loved it as a camper. I would love to send my daughter there this year... I'm hoping that the church I hardly patronize has a youth group going there this year. LOL!!!! I would love to go on the trail ride all over again but I don't have anyone to take my kids for a week. LOL!!!

That looks like such fun bella! The nearest I ever got to a camp was spendinh holidays with my sister and all the kids there! lol That is the same camp my kids use too - as she is a foster carer there are always other children there! My son does usually go to a camp that my ex husbands company runs for two weeks but they only go during the day. It is all about adventures and outings such as white water rafting, abseiling etc, this year he is too old for it but they are running a digital camp for his age group which involves producing music videos, news pieces etc and he is really looking forward to that! xxx

I guess I am very lucky that my ex is paying for this camp! I know it is difficult to find the funds for these things but I do agree that it is well worth the money to help give them their confidence and self esteem! xxx

I wish I could bean my ex over the head and he'd pay for the summer camp for his daughter but it's like pulling teeth to get him to start paying child support.

I hope he has lots of fun with the new camp. I am right now trying to find funds for everything as is. if you know what I mean it's going to cost me over 400.00 to send her to pony camp. LOL!! I think this is going to be very good for her self esteem. LOL!!!

Did you ever bring back some wonderful old memories for me! I went to a church camp in West Milton, Pa. called Central Oak Heights as a child back in the early sixties. I think my parents only had to pay $10 for me to attend and the church paid the rest, which I have no idea anymore how much that was. it was for a week and was about an hour or so drive from home, which was a long ride for me at the time but now wouldn't seem very far at all! It was so much fun! There was swimming, hiking, arts and crafts, volleyball, and all kinds of activities. I looked it up before responding here and apparently the camp is still there but now the cabins and cottages are privately owned with some being available for summer rental. It was a beautiful place and they had everything there so it would sure be a fun place to go with my family. Annie

I have brought back many fond memories of going on a trail ride around the alleghany mountain and having a great time and that we were only in civilization for One night.

Well we do not have summer camps in UK, or we did not when I was a kid, and I have not come across any while I have had children so I am guessing not! I am pretty glad that there was no summer camps or things when I was a kid, camping and things are just not me. Never have been, I went on one camping trip with school and that was definately one too many in my opinion!! I would let my children go on them if they wanted too though, just because I do not like them does not mean that they would not.

Oh summer camps for me were really good.I was a member of the girl guides and oh how i loved being a girl guide!!every year we went on camp..and we had games and did stiudies for our badges,it was brilliant. At night we always lit a big bonfire, and then a pan of milk was put on the fire to heat and the cocoa was made.My kids werent in the guides or scouts..but they went camping with their schools..it was a yearly thing to that they all really looked forward to..and we had to save up every year for them to be able to go...I think that those summer camps are part of a childhhod memory that will stay with you for ever!!!The fun ,the midnight feasting..the singing...just being part of that group,,it was really special.

That is so why I want my daughter to go .. I feel that even though our family is not overly religous that the camps would be good for her. LOL! I think that I really would love for her to enjoy going to camp.

I'd never been to a summer camp when I was little and neither have my kids actually...I've considered seeing if they wanted to go (when they were younger) but money was always an issue..

Some camps have scholarships that are available I would look into the camps that are around your area and see if they have a scholarship available if they do call the camp and see what is involved to it. I'm about to do that this monday.

I went to a couple camps as a kid. Camp Bolton was terrible. The staff were mean and wouldn't let me go to the bathroom and I peed the bed and got sick. Another one was Camp Rainbow. Though it was a religious theme to it for the most part we all just had fun. My daughter went to camp for the first time last year and had a ball. I am trying to get her to go again this year too.

I try and research a camp before sending or if I have prior experience with that camp then I'm more likely to send my child there. I'm happy that your daughter had a blast last year and that you're willing to send her this year too. LOL!! Have a nice one.

I did a lot of camping when I was a kid, but I did not attend summer camp except one time and I hated it so much, I refused to go back!! They would not even let the kids do anything....we could not set up our tents, we could not sit around the fire.....all we were allowed to do was wash dishes and eat...it was sooooo boring....I loved camping with my family though...camping is one of my favorite thigns to do, but I will never attend or let my kids attend an organized summer camp if its like the one I attended!

Check the link in my discussion the kids sleep in a cabin on a bunk in their sleeping bag the have several activities avialable to them. LOL!! I'm sorry that you camping experience was the best but there are all kinds of summer camps thats why I look into them carefully and I go by my past experience of where would let my kids go. I went to camp sequenota and to wesley woods I have heard wonderful things about camp alleghany.. So I have three choices maybe more if I search .. But I want to make sure that my daughter gets to go to a pony camp. LOL!!!

I went to a camp but it was only for 2 weeks every summer and only cost $75 and I think that was just to cover our food and water usage because I think the counselors were all volunteers from the church. I send my boys to a summer day camp that lasts 6 weeks and that seems to be working fine. They leave at 9 are home by 4 and I still have time to do things with them during the day. I couldn't send any of my kids away for days/weeks straight. I would go insane with worry.

That's part of letting them grow up .. Letting go... I think my 9 yr old won't die without me for a week at a camp with conselors. LOL!! I just have to come up with the money. Maybe I could go back and get a raise in child support from the 100 I get for two kids a month. LOL!!!! I was going to call my church and see if the youth group does summer camps. LOL I want my daughter to build some strong friendships and get to enjoy some fun activities. Horseback riding be one of them. what say you with your oldest. Would you send her.? or do you think she might like to go?

i went to daycamp when i was i think 10ish or so.. and loved it. i now send my little one off to the same camp (albeit different branch as i dont live anywhere near where i did as a kid) and she has a ball!! this year shes old enough for the overnighter they do every year and shes so very excited about it youd think she had ants in her pants! 10 days from 9am to 4pm of arts and crafts, nature walks, swimming lessons and getting to meet new kids and make new friends. shes also old enough this year to chose a "specialty" such as the horseriding like you did.. where she will learn not only to ride, but in the care and upkeep of horses as well.. or other groups like rockclimbing, extreme sports, etc etc. she hasnt decided yet exactly what she wants to do this year, but we still have time before registration. i too, if necessary, would fundraise if the tuition were too much.. its a fun important experience to go to summercamp and builds lifelong memories.

yep it builds lots of friendships and they get to do so much that it makes them have more self confidence in themselves.
