I have a friend up North that has a tendency to call a lot. Not only does she call a lot but also she will keep calling until I answer the phone even though I have an answering machine. It’s really annoying and I’ve had to get onto her about it. There’s another person, my youngest Brothers g/f, who sometimes does this too. She’ll call, get the answering machine, hang up and call right back. I've gotten onto her too. Personally, I don’t like talking on an answering machine but I’ll leave a message instead of continuously calling. It’s especially annoying when your trying to sleep in, your sick or you stayed up late. It used to be that you only called someone when you had something important to tell them now it’s just to sit there and listen to the other person breathe. The friend up North has gotten upset with me a few times b/c she wanted me to call her and I didn’t. When she asked me why, I told her…b/c I didn’t have anything to talk about. It makes sense to me. Do you call people continuously even if their machine picks up? Do you leave messages or call back? Do you call ppl when you don’t have anything to say? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

To be honest, I don't call anybody and usually people are the ones calling me all the time. I don't have a answering machine and is hard to hide from people. I don't mind talking to people even if is about silly stuff. I'm very friendly and I just enjoy having friends. On the other hand, I hate to be bother by so many telemarketers and charity organizations always asking for more money that I can afford because once you donate money to a few charities you are bombarded by hundreds of charities. Well, just take it easy since there are worse things than dealing with persistent people.

If I call someone, it means I have something to say or ask. I have a couple of friends that do the same thing, they call and call untill the phone gets picked up like you said rather than leave a message. Sometimes I just do not feel like talking, I may not even want to answer the phone, so if its important say so on the dang machine please! Oh yeah I know who you feel here!

I do that too! Only sometimes, like during a nap, and I turn down the answering machine so it will not wake us up!

I usually call back if someone leaves a message. Hpowever if it someone constantly bugging me. If is someone whom I really am not all that close to or interested in talking to them I just pick up the phone real quick and hang up. If I do that 2 or 3 time they usually get the message and quit calling so often.

I never call if I do not have something to say. I too hate it when people just call over and over again if I do not pick up. Everyone knows i see who called when I get to my phone. Both of them have this feature. Everyone also knows that sometimes I cannot talk on the phone. Those times I will just see who calls and pick up if I think it is really urgent. Some of our family members will still call over and over and over again if we do not answer. It is pissing me off.

I know my sister doesn't like talking to the machines, but she knows if she wants to talk to me, she will have to leave a message..Myself, I see nothing wrong with leaving my name and number and I do when I get an answering machine.

I personally don't like talking on the phone but will if I have to. Where I work 3rd shift I tend to shut the ringers off so I am not disturbed by the ringing of the phone. I do have a friend that will call and I have caller I.D. and if I want to talk to him I will answer but if I don't then I just won't answer it and he hangs up and calls back every hour or so. It can get annoying alot of the time. I have voice mail they can leave a message and I will get back to them when I am ready to. Most of the time there is nothing to talk about and I don't see the point of being on the phone. Each to his/her own I guess.

I work in a place where I have to call people and if they are not there I leave them a voicemail and call them back after 3 months if they don't respond. I don't like leaving messages over and over. I don't think it's right as well. I think we should just keep in touch at times and don't annoy people with calls. It's not nice.

Well, they had better start using that answering machine because I absolutely hate talking on the phone. They may start finding out that leaving a message is far preferable than talking to me...

I hate the telephone most of the time...No i do not call and torment people..If i call someone ,i leave a message and tell them to call me whenever they get a chance..That why we have answering machines....If it were me as soon as these people call,i would take my phone off of the hook and give them a busy signal...I think the telephone it the rudest thing we have in our house, people has no respect for your privatey..I get phone calls that just call to talk about nothing.I think phone calls should be short unless you have something very important to talk about...

I have a friend who will see that I am on mylot and start calling my house. She won't get an answer on the home phone so she calls my cell phone and when she doesn't get an answer there she calls my home phone again. Then she will IM me on gmail and ask me why I am not answering the phone. 9/10 times it is because I am in the bathroom on my laptop and am in no position to get up and answer a phone. But her calling before 10 AM usually wakes up my baby and then I can't talk to her anyway because I have a fussy baby to chase after. You would think she would have learned by now that if I don't answer on the first try I am not going to answer on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 40th.

Thankfully this does not happen to me anymore, my sister inlaw use to call like that, but since we had a falling out some years back. She never calls now.I am not a big phone person either and most people that know me, know that. The only one I talk to at length on the phone is my daughter. But she knows if I do not answer leave a message I will get back to you. Oh and my sisters out of state I talk to them at length as well. Other wise I just find out what you need and get off. If you want to chit chat, come on over for a nice cup of coffee and we will have a nice visit.

I do not like a telephone, although I have had one just about forever.. I only use one when I have something to say and then after I say it, I am ready to get off the phone.. I can't stand it when someone calls and the first worlds out of their mouths are what are you doing, then after you tell them, it is just silence.. Well I didn't call you so I don't have to carry the conversation, if you call me, then please do have something to be calling me about.. I don't like for the breathers to call me and then wait for me to talk to them, I am not an entertainer and wish that I were more outspoken about this problem.. We do have a friend who calls, says what are you doing and that is it, nothing more, we have to talk to him or listen to very uncomfortable silence on the line.. I have even tried to out wait him to see how long it would take for him to say somehting but he won.. Now I just wait and call back when I get the time, if it is an emergency, they can state it on the answereing machine..

oh that is annoying. i don't like when people do that. and don't like for people to leave me a message. if you call and i don't answer the phone, i tell them to text me. i rather then text me, and if i don't text back then i don't want to be bothered. please don't call me over and over again. if you don't want to text leave a message and wait for me to call back. i am lucky that i don't have anyone around who does that, but i use too.

Why don't you turn your ringer off when you aren't in the mood to talk? Sometimes people don't expect the answering machine, so they call back when they have a second to figure out what message they want to leave. Some people assume you aren't home, ro are in the bathroom, and just call back to make sure they didn't miss you. Have you ever thought your FRIEND was lonely and needed someone to talk to?

Your friend is not bad, please trust me. Try my friend I called her and left a message. She wanted to talk to me, and guess what she did? She called my mobile twenty-two times (so I got to listen to "bad boys" theme twenty-two times) and she left voice mails for each call. I told her I was tired of her doing that so she doesn't do it anymore. The maximum she did recently was five times. Then I have a pen pal friend...he called me fourteen times in a row. He talked to me for about five minutes, then hung up we talked, then hung up, and then we talked. It was annoying for him to do that. I agree your friend is annoying so you have to tell her that. You don't want to talk right now so leave a message and you'll get back with her. I don't think anyone can beat my friend...twenty-two calls? Anyone? Pablo

Remember when you were a kid and you played ring and run? You'd go up to a neighbor's house, ring their doorbell and then run like mad? People who call your house and don't leave a message are doing the SAME THING. If you call my house and ring and run, I will not call you back. Yes I see that you called because the caller ID shows me I missed your call. But I don't have a message from you asking you to call me back, so I will not! My mother-in-law and her two daughters do this all the time and it's just downright rude. And yes, if we don't answer they just keep calling, never leaving a message...very rude.

That's annoying! Well, sounds like a bit of a controlling person as well. I page them if it's urgent.

We need to get an answer machine here. Been missing out on too many important calls, but then again, they do have my mobile number and that has voice mail on it! lol. When I first had my own flat, I had an answer machine. I also had an ex friend who kept ringing up and leaving nasty messages. Um, she didn't think that through because the tapes were handed over to the police and she got into quite a bit of trouble. Now, that might sound petty on my part, but this person was a very violent person and had tried to harm me on several occassions. I did warn her that if she kept the messages up, I would go to the police about it, but she didn't believe me. We have a cordless phone now, and most of the time, it sits on hubby's desk and not on the recharge stand, so it goes flat without us noticing. Really annoying when the base receives the call, and you can't answer because the handset is flat. Having an answer machine would provide a back up plan for when that does happen.
