How do you manage your pain?

I have recently been told by my doctor that I have fibromyalgia, that does explain my other pains I have been experiencing. I also have severe osteoarthritis in both knees, a left ankle, and hips. Migraines and other headaches but as we know alot of headaches come from stress. Which too many of us are under in this world today. For me it's very hard to deal with the pain, and sometimes I feel like screaming inside when nothing seems to make it go away or at least be more barible. What I hate is when it seems to take your life away from you, what I mean is if you were very active before the pain, you had dreams and plans for the future of goals to do. Or you had active hobbies you enjoyed doing and now you either can't do it anymore or you are limited to doing only bits and pieces of it. Most doctors don't know either about the depression that comes with pain too. Mostly they just want to send you for another specialist and more pills. Why can't they say try this? or start doing this and see if you feel any better. I due to funds am limited to going to a free clinic, we get only donations concerning meds. These are abusive places to go, cause most of staff are just volunteers and not there cause they want to be and they have not qualms of letting you know this. For my fibromyaglia I was given nothing for the pain, might as well given me a piece of wood to bite on. snort. Lish

When I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in both my knees my primary care doctor sent me to a specialist who gave me cortisone shots in both knees then put me on pain meds also. the shorts were fantastic as I could once again go about my job without hurting so bad I had to use crutches.Depression you need to seek help with a conselor as it needs real attention.I hate these free clinics for the same reasons you do. I now have a hmo for people on limited income that covers a whole lot of stuff that my otherhmo did not cover. It is called evercare and is part of Secure HOrizons and is so near for older people on very limited incomes. you should look into this really. hope I have helped you somewhat anyway.call secure horizons and find out please.

I too have this fibromyaglia. It is very painful. I know what you are going through as I have had it for years. All my doctor does is give me anti-inflamatory pills which really don't do much good and says exercise moderately. I also have 2 degenerated discs in my back which is very painful when I try to walk. My knees are not to good along with my legs. I had an epidural in 2001 and boy that helped the pain. Now everything is happening again so here comes the pain clinic. I truly am sorry to hear about your problems.

Thank you for replying back, and i'm sorry for your pain too. I was in two bad car accidents which twisted my lower back and two whiplashes. Not sure which is more intense the arthritis in both knees, hips or this fibromyalgia. If you are able and i would check first with your doc or pharmactist so it doesnt interfere with your meds. You can take some herbs for the pain. White willow bark (natural aspirin without side effects), ginger, or boswella. The boswella is very good but its hard for me to get extra stuff since i have no income or insurance. Sometimes my mom will buy stuff for me. Does the pain clinic work for you? My dad has been to those. Keep me posted if you like on any progress. will keep you in my prayers. Lish

Thank you for the herb information for pain. My mom, who reached her 90th birthday this year, is a great believer in herbs. The pain clinic did help me about 4 years ago but we will see this time.
