Do you ever do this?

Do you ever skip over a "controversial" discussion to avoid the inevitable conflict only to somehow end up seeing it again and replying to it? I do this once in awhile here. I will purposely avoid the discussion (especially ones on religion) but then I see it again and become compelled to respond! Sometimes I regret it, but usually I don't really care

I love a good debate, and a good debate needs controversy! I never avoid a controversial discussion, in fact I'll jump in with both feet. I never pay any attention to my Falling Stars, and actually feel for those who are bothered by such trivial matters. Religion usually sparks a good discussion and I have nothing but admiration for those who will go to so much trouble to dig up (so called) Biblical facts, when the bible can hardly be called Factual! But leaving all that aside, Let me say," Have a Nice Day and God Bless!"

Yes, I have many times. And yes I have stupidly responded to one religion discussion where I end up getting angry response from the original poster. And the next thing I know, my star and points went down drastically. Now I will try not to respond to any controversial discussion anymore.

Yup, I admit that I skip 90% of controverisal discussions, because I'm afraid I'll get slaughtered by really opinionated people... Perhaps if I know that I can reply to a discussions wisely, and I know what I'm talking about, I may respond- and if I have a strong opinion ^^

Yes, I do skip them. But I always read them as I find them quite interesting to read. I always have an opinion that I would like to say, but I am not one for putting it in. I do not have the gift of the gab and I hate being in confrontations over issues so to speak. I hate heated things, would much rather be an onlooker than actually one of the participants. Just something that I have never been any good at, I am absolutely useless in an argument and my answer to any argument I got involved in was to just end it by flattening someone!!

wooitsmolly I try really hard anymore not to start a controversial discussion nor respond to one because when I opened a discussion on Jehovah;s witnesses I got so many really nasty responses and was flammed too. my star was ten 'and in two days I was minused down to a six and by deleting a trouble maker from myfriends I went up to a seven at once. now I do not respond to discussions about religion or about smoking versus nonsmoking. let others get their stars knocked down and have nasty things said to them,I just do not care for that anymore.

i will answer the discussions of my friends, unless they are posting the same things over and over again and I don't want to respond the same way over and over again, I don't answer american politics because I am not america, the discussion has to be broad enough for me to comment on, and even then I just might not feel like it. It depends on the day, same for religion,

I do skip some of them myself if I feel like I am going to start problems by something that I have said. Then there are times I really don't care either. I guess it depends on what mood I am in.

Molly, I find myself doing this very thing quite frequently. The subject interests me, although I know its dangerous, but by the time I have seen it several times a good response has come to mind and I just have to type it no matter the cost.... like you I don't care.

Yes I will do that from time to time. Sometimes I really cannot take a conflict - and sometimes I just know I'll end up in one if I dare to answer. The topics are usually in the religion-category, or international politics and war. The middle east situastion seems to get me into discussions for days most everytime I take part in those discussions

Hi wooitsmolly! Yes, I try my best to avoid such discussions but sometimes I find myself in the middle of it. I really don't like it since it's not worth the heartache sometimes. i just don't like being judged because of a simple misunderstanding of different views. I just want to maintain a respectable discussion wherein we can disagree politely and somehow makes us better and more open minded people. Just my thoughts dear friend. Take care and have a nice day!

Sometimes, it really depends what mood I am in and how much time I have. If really busy and flitting to and from discussions will tend to choose easier topics to answer but if I am going to be here for a while I will respond because these sorts of subjects tend to need lengthy responses and a lot of thought before responding to them. for me, usually it's in regard to politics, because just like religion, everybody has their own opinions and no matter how much you think you're right, they also think they're right and will not budge. so i spare myself the drama and just make fun of people instead... it's very entertaining

I think we all do this from time to time. Interesting bit of trivia... In ancient times, in order to prevent political apathy and kingdom-wide decay, the ancient King Solon made it a crime to shrink from controversy.

Hu hu! I always avoid religion section. There always war over there... sad really how can people doubt and push his own believing? I mean we should respect each every religion. Even when the person is Atheis , it's still a believing, and still a human to. Make peace my friends

Yes, I've done this a few times Molly. I've skipped over a discussion when I've felt it may end in conflict, only to come across it again - and then I've felt I really have to reply to it - and reap the consequences! We all have different opinions and feelings, and we should be able to respect that in our friends, without it ending up in a big argument. Isn't that what makes us more interesting to other people - having different viewpoints? It would be a sad and boring life if we all agreed with each other. If someone doesn't agree with my opinion, then that's their problem, not mine. I like the saying "I am what I am". Take me or leave me - it's up to them. I love your outspokenness Molly, it's very refreshing! People know where they stand with you, and I like that.

Not really. I have my own thoughts on things and if I feel like expressing them I will. I am not afraid to do so. I try to be as tactful as I can but I do occasionally enjoy a little "differences of opinions" as long as people do not get pushy or ugly. We all have the right to our own ideas.

Oh yes, definitely. I will see a discussion and maybe even read through all the responses, and I will sometimes be compelled to respond. Sometimes I actually write out a long response and then chicken out and go look for something else! I've only been active on here for 2 days, so I haven't had a whole lot of experience with this, but I have chosen to reply and I have chosen to step back. Maybe when I've been here a while I will loosen up maybe I will take more risks. In general I am pretty tactful.
