Lately I feel like when you go to the Dr. they are willing to write you a prescirption for just about anything you want or they think you need without making sure that is even what is wrong with you. I also believe that there are a lot of things that can be taken care of over the counter or just by changing the diet. Hence why do they give us a prescription that will hurt us even more in the long run when they could just tell us stop eating these types of foods, or try eating more of this. Is it because society has become to lazy to put in the effort actually heal themselfs, instead they would rather pop a pill and call it good. BTW I am not saying every Dr. is like this, I am also not saying everything can be cured without a pill. I am saying there are some simple things like diarhea that can be cured by taking garlic supplements but instead the Dr. would put you on an antibiotic costing more money. After paying the Dr. visit and the drug cost you are loseing in some case 100's of dollars. A bottle of garlic is only $4.00

I also feel that quite a number of doctors are overprescribing these days. Not sure whether they are out just to get money or what, but I think the patient's welfare and healthcare should be of utmost importance when it comes to this issue. Like you, I'm not saying that all doctors are like that but I can certainly see some of these trends starting to mushroom in my area. On the other hand, I think your example of diarrhea is not such a good one to depict this situation. Garlic supplements are NOT always useful to treat diarrhea, and it may work for some people and may not work for others. If you've tried it before and it works for you, then good on you, but I don't think you should generalize to the whole population just because it works for you. Sometimes, antibiotics work for some kinds of diarrhea such as Clostridium difficile infection, so you can't say that antibiotic prescribing for diarrhea is wrong all the time too. Not to say that I'm criticizing you in a way, but I think you have to look at the bigger picture before actually making an argument. Hope you don't get angry with my way of explaining things; I apologize if it sounds hurtful because at times my way of structuring sentences are not so good....please forgive me!
