Last week in my internet concepts class, one of my classmates asked in reference to the topic of Wireless Internet service. "Why pay for internet service when your neighbor pays for it alread?"
Which is a question so dumb that my allergy to stupid just has me breaking out all over! Hello you're going to college online and you're stealing internet connectivity from one of your neighbors and you don't see a reason why you should pay for internet service because they do? Plus though they may not have secured their network when they first set it up when first they set up their network, but they may set their unsecured network to secured and when they do BAM think of all of the inconvenience of not knowing whether or not you'll have a functioning internet connection to submit your homework from day to day.
Or try, "It's stealing!" You know not too long ago all people were aware that stealing things was ill advised and rude. Now they look at you wide eyed and ask why they shouldn't steal because it's easy and they get something that they need and use for free. So my question here is this. If your neighbor did not secure a wireless network and you were able to use their wireless internet connection for free without them knowing, would you? Or wopuld you get your own internet service installed in your homw?

The creepy thing about it is that we are studying for degrees as IT or computer specialists and professionals. There is a certain code of conduct that we are supposed to be learning along with all of the other things that we are learning. I don't think that this activity that he is pursuing even passes the scent test for any nose test on ethical computer management skills. Though I am not one to judge yet as I said that "allegy to stupid" started itching like mad when I got a load of that response to the teacher's query about unauthorized access to the internet.
