I really feel I have to share this, I feel so sorry for myself. Tomorrow I have to go to the dentist and have a wisdom tooth pulled out. I haven't done that before, and I am a bit concerned. The dentist said I can probably work afterwards, his words were "It is no pain that a panadol won't cure". Yeah, right I think. I told my boss today and he told me to take the day off tomorrow.. Have you had teeth pulled out? How bad is it? Did you have any anaesthesia? What is the normal procedure in your country?

wow what a scary story.. yes we have anasthesea. but how could your tooth root left inside? didn't you need a minor surgery for that? i did the pullout thing last night and the doctor did a good job..it's only 15 mnt. and my youngest tooth is actually OK nothing wrong with it.. except it has no pair beneath it.. since the one beneath it was pull out long time ago when i was at college since it's grown in a wrong direction and i did a minor surgery to pull out it.

No I'm back from the dentist. I don't know how to make a general comment on my own post, so I guess I have to make an answer. I have to admit I was very nervous when I went. The dentist was very nice and explained a lot about what he was gonna do, so it felt very good. I got the anaesthesia and everyone was right, I didn't feel a thing. The only problem was that the tooth didn't want to come out. The dentist tried for an hour, he separated it to pull out one root at the time etc, but it didn't budge. So now I'm sitting here with a fluffy cottonball thing in my mouth, spitting blood. There is no crown left on my tooth but the roots are still there, and I have an appointment for thursday to come back and then they will make an incision in the gum and try to get the roots out. So not quite happy, but I am still very happy with the way the dentist treated me and the job he made.

Not to worry friend! It wont be as bad as your thinking! I've had so many dental procedures done it's not even funny! (I have very bad teeth, soft enamal and what not) 13 cavities and counting so far! 2 fake teeth, a crown, a bridge, and lots of selant! Not to mention the 2 surgies. I had all my wisodm teeth out at the same time. I was asleep for that so i felt nothing. But the other 2 teeth that had to be removed were pulled/filed out. The shot to numb you stings and will be slightly unpleasent but not to bad. And you shouldnt feel anything they do after that, if you do they need to numb you more! If you feel unconfortable with the whole tooth pulling thing some doctors can give you the "happy" gas to make you more at ease. All in all i would say it's a good idea to take the day off work. Your mouth will probably be sore and you'll want to relax with your pain meds. Good luck to you, it'll be over b4 you know it! Let me know how it turns out!

Thank you! It probably will go in no time, but it is always like that with bad things, isn't it; you spend a life time worrying and then it works out fine in no time. I am not sure about the happy gas, have never had that, but I have heard about it and I am sure I can do without :) About work, I am not sure it was all out of concern that my boss let me off. It might have something to do about the bad reputation that could come with having me sluring and sounding like I am drunk on the phone..

I had my first tooth pulled out when I was about 12 years old and I hardly felt any pain. They will give you a good anesthetic injection which will numb the pain well. So just relax and dont waste energy worrying about it - I'm sure it will be OK! Let us know how you felt!

i had all 4 of mine pulled at once.didn't have any choice, the way they were coming in locked up my jaw. they knocked me out for it.it really wasn't that bad, just uncomfortable.my jaw was stiff for awhile. yours probably won't be that bad though with only one coming out. i have no idea what panadol's like, but they gave me percoset, and that did the job.you might want to get some soft food, like soup for the first day or so.

Panadol is a normal head ache type pill with paracetamol. It certainly put things in perspective, having all four pulled out and being knocked out for it. I will keep that in mind when I need to reassure myself this is not so bad :)

yea,it'll be a wee uncomfortable for a day or so,but it should be ok.if the tooth is partially erupted, even better-they can grab it.mine never poked through, they were buried in there causing problems.

the first time i had my wisdom tooth pulled out, it was one after another with an interval of one week. it's totally not painful as it's only a simple extraction. i'm lucky as my wisdom tooth is not impacted i.e. it's growing normally. i had to have it pulled out as it is pushing the rest of my teeth and causing them to bleed. the second time was bad as i opt to pull out both at one go. then the 'smart' dentist actually broke my tooth and turned the simple extraction into a surgery. naturally i was quite upset but i had no choice as the broken tooth must be removed. in the end, my entire lower jaw was swollen. but at the end of the day, it's not a painful process. just the inability to swallow my saliva makes it a little messy. take care and remember not to take hot food. as far as possible drink cold water to help stop the bleeding.

I have had several teeth taken out. Four taken out for overcrowding in my mouth. I had to get braces at this time. They were not loose, but just for braces.... Sad? I have had other teeth taken out for cavities. When I get any of my teeth taken out the doctor will numb my mouth. And when the teeth is being pulled out, there is a strong pressure, but no pain. Then afterwards you will feel a mild ache. My doctor always give me Ibropofen or Motrin for this toothache. It usually goes away then...

As of now, I am practicing how I keep my teeth from coming out. I am using Act Restore Mouthwash. I am also using Crest for sensitive teeth. The thing that I like about my teeth now, is that they stay up to date with my cleanings. I have co cavities, plus my gums don't bleed when I brush my teeth. Hang in there. I don't like getting my teeth pulled out either.

Yeah, I have also realized, as I am getting older that I should probably put a bit more energy and time to keep my teeth happy. I try to use mouth wash, and I brush my teeth at least twice a day. But I am very bad at going to the dentist since I do not like it at all, and then all the little things has gotten big by the time I finally talk myself into going, and it leads to painful fixing of cavities etc or in this case pulling out the tooth.

Don't worry! I just had my 3 wisdom teeth pulled (I never had a 4th) 10 days ago. It was nothing at all. And, trust me...I was scared. They knocked me out with anesthesia and, I didn't feel anything at all. Then, they woke me up, sent me home with instructions to change the gauze in my mouth once an hour until the blood was lessened to just a pink color. Just make sure that the gauze is saturated with saliva (or water it down with water) before you remove it so that you don't pull out your clot. And, I used my pain meds twice that day (my surgery was at noon). I don't know that I needed to use my pain meds but, I used them anyway just in case. Then, the next day, I didn't have any pain all day long. It was like nothing really happened. Is your wisdom tooth impacted (under the gum)? Or, is it fully grown in? Don't worry! It really was nothing. I worried myself over nothing! Let us know how you are doing as soon as you feel up to it!

I had one wisdom tooth pulled and they gave me something that pretty much knocked me out so the pulling wasno very painful then they sent me home me home with some pain pills. I really did not have a lot of pain afterwards maybe just that one day. It was not a bad experience at all.

I am with you because I also have a wisdom tooth that needs to be taken care of. I have gone to the dentist for another tooth and yes, the anaesthesia really works so don't worry. As long as you have a good dentist then no need to worry about.

Hi emiese, so sorry to hear that, i had all four wisdom teeth pulled at the same time, under general anaesthetic mind you, but afterwards it was more uncomfortable than anything. I felt as if someone had punched my jaw and i was badly bruised under my chin on both sides.. otherwise i was ok, although i couldnt eat much for a few days! Hope all goes well for you... keep taking the painkillers!!

I think it's just your nervious about the whole thing being done where you have never had it done befor and that's understandable. They will give you novacane which will numb your mouth on the side there working on and you won't feel any pain maybe a little pressure but that's about it. You will feel better in the long run. I wish you the best of luck and hang in there.

Hello! All i can say is don't worry, as soon as it's over you will be thankful that you had the courage to go through that. I had my first trip to the dentist to have my tooth pulled out when i was 25 years old. Imagine the pain i had to endure during the years that kept me from going to the dentist because of fear. When your tooth ache, it seems that your whole body is affected. You can't even concentrate in your work or studies. When my friends finally succeeded in taking me to the dentist, it didn't even hurt one bit. I thought the dentist was still asking me which tooth ache, then all of a sudden he showed me my tooth already pulled-out. I was so happy that the next time i had a toothache, i told the dentist to pull 3 pcs of my tooth all at the same time.
