Could you live without it? Your computer?

Do you think you'd have a meltdown? Have to re-learn how to think and how to use your reference material? What if you couldn't scan the internet for a specific topic and instead had to go to the library and get out tons of books so you could find an unbiased view? What then?

I think I would get more done, LOL. I spend way too much time on the computer. Luckily I'm old enough to know a time before computer and the world wide web (and that wasn't too long ago, LOl). Anyhow, while it is very tedious, good research at the higher level is still done in the library. The www is not as reliable as many would like to think;)

I understand what you're saying. I've had my first pc when I was like 20 (now I'm 31) and I'm glad I'm born without knowing internet when I was a child :P It's a good tool but it easily could control you more than you're doing with it :D Lot of people take wikipedia like if it was THE definitive encyclopedia but it should be only taken as a start point to do more researches.

I have a meltdown when I don't have a computer. It happened to me recently, and I pretty much had to get a new one as soon as possible. I suppose a bit of it is the research thing, because I do a lot of research online and would miss it, but since I'm not in school it's all just stuff that interests me at the time. For me it's really the social part that freaks me out... because sometimes I spend days going to work, coming home, going to work, without seeing anyone but my hubby, kid, coworkers, customers... it's online where I have friends and fun things to do.

Welcome to the club for real people... The same has happened to me, circumstances slightly different, but my usage of the internet quite similar....funny, it's the connection to the real world we miss out on while working.... I need it for research, that's how I've been able to teach myself different things

I think I would explode, really. I've gotten so dependent on the internet for keeping in touch with people and entertainment, I don't know what I would do without it. I don't have any issue with going to the library for research, but for everything else, I have to have my internet. :P

Understood....my laptop crashed and I have just my desktop, when my boyfriend wants to play his game EVERY TIME, I can't help it I really try, I tell him how we have to fix the laptop... he's a tv guy, I'm Queen of the Internet, so that's where the problem lies, I have nothing to do without my computer, when he's preoccupied. I write, yes, and I read, but aside from that, there is really nothing to do here, until after we move and get a table, then it will be different...dinner will last a little longer, and then I'll need the computer...:)

Yes I would go nuts without my computer. Mine had to got to the computer hospital for 3 days and I did have a slight meltdown. I am an older person, so I do remember the days without a computer. And I do find that I am doing things that I should be doing, such as clean the house, mow the grass etc. But all my friends are in this computer and just can't live without them. So, yes I sure wouldn't want to live without my computer. I guess I would live if I had to go to the library for research but it is so much easier right here at home. Good discussion.

I don't think so. But I will live if it goes away. I am still breathing, so... I will make it.

I would be able to function without my computer but it sure would not be any fun. Most of all, I think i would miss mylot. I could get along with looking things up in the dictionary and such though. I still use those as a matter of a fact.
