how do you make sure that you are safe when you travel to other countries?

just don't pass by an alley with no light. make sure that when you are out you will not go to a place with few people or no people at all. better stay at your hotel at night if you are not sure about the safety of the place. stroll in the morning or 'til there's light.

It is usually safe to go somewhere either close to where you live or to a country you have heard a lot about. The media can give a very skewed version of what a country is really like. Try speaking with those who have actually visited or have lived in the country for some time. The best advice is to go to a country that speaks the same language as you do. Find out how these countries treat the tourists that they allow to come in, this should give you a pretty good insight.

I've travelled to a few countries both on my own and in groups and the best thing I've found to do is research. Particularly in books such as Lonely Planet and Rough Guides. Trust your general judgement just as you would in your own country, and compliment that with understanding areas that are less safe and the local customs as outlined in travel books.

i already have travelled to a country that i dont know anybody...i just asked around how to get to the nearest hotel and how to get there....but if you cant do this i would suggest that you research online the nearest hotel you can go to on that country or if you have money have a concierge to pick you up at the airport.
