American Idol - Does Gender Play A Role?

Seems like every time I turn the radio on, Jordin Spark's Tattoo is playing. And the odd time I flip on the country music station? Carrie Underwood is asking Jesus to take the wheel or is belting out her tribute to the all American girl. But when was the last time you heard a Ruben Studdart ditty? And Taylor Hicks, the winner of year 5 was dropped by his record label.

I'm not really sure. I think Chris Daughtry should have won American Idol season 5 myself. I here his songs all the time. I think Tayor Hicks just didn't make it as big as the other American idols have.

I don't think gender is playing any kind of role. I just think that Carrie and Jordan have gotten many great songs that people like, and that radios want to play. Maybe you just aren't listening to the right stations to here the guys you mentioned. And you're forgetting about all the men who didn't win, but are still being played on the radio all the time; Bucky Cuvington, Chris Daughtry. they are defeniatly famous...and defeniatly non female! =P lol.

Ah but I hear Daughtry regularly, Bo Bice, Bucky Covington, even Phil Stacy. I am familiar with a lot of the finalist competitors who did not WIN American Idol but they did break into the music industry and seem to be doing fine. I was never a fan of Ruben or Taylor really, proof that the most deserving vocally doesn't necessarily win. As with other tv shows, it is also about sellability and image, or supposed to be anyway.
