Honour thy Children.

(This was taken from Washington Post by Patricia Dalton). Today's generation of Children is the most closely observed, monitored, cherished and scheduled in our history. It came to me like a lightning bolt: Not only are the kids unafraid of their parents, parents are afraid of their kids.

Well dear according to Rizal's mother "Spare the rod and spoil the child" This is a notion that children will only flourish if punished, physically or otherwise, for any wrongdoings and it is written in the bible, proverbs 13-4 ( King James Version ): He that spareth his rod hateth his son. Children will not do what the parents says, since they will do what the parents have modeled. In our modern times we cannot change what is inevitable but children model the behaviors that the parent has presented to them time and time again. The future generation of the world ( our children )will prosper psychologically when devotion and effort is put into their upbringing. So , there is nothing to be afraid of.

well thats true...partly, but as an asian grew up with a desciplinary parent,i still value the old way of how we descipline our children and not just giving up our position as a parents and just follow what they want. its also said in bible that its our (parents) responsibility to make them grow in a proper manner tho its not mean beat them too much but beat them with love just for them to know what is good and bad.

Parents have always been afraid of their kids, but in the old days they were better equipped to hide that fact. When I think of my upbringing in the Caribbean, we lived in a society of very strong moral values, based mainly on the teachings and philosophy of the Bible. In that moral and social climate, kids knew their place, and showed proper respect not only to their parents, but also to all the adults they met. That applied particularly to figures of authority, like preachers, teachers, policemen, nurses and doctors. As we look around us today and try to judge the massive breakdown in that natural order, it throws up a lot of questions, but the central one remains...are we as a society bringing up our children in the right way to ensure a happy social order tomorrow?

Thanx for your reply, it depends...we as a parent and the older generation in our society are the one whos molding them and a role model of the new generation, its our responsibility to act the right way, what i mean to say is we are the one who suppose to do the right move first for them to follow.

So are you afraid of your kid? Hmm I wont allow that with my kids. They are still afraid of us specially to my wife, lol. Though you are right, its too different already compared to our times, maybe because children now are more knowledgeable than us before? Or because parents now are more hardheaded or stubborn than before?
