I'm doing a speech tonight on personal space and I was wondering what everyone on mylot thought of this subject. What is your personal space? 1-3 feet 3-5 feet 5 or more feet If you don't mind adding what country your from this would help me out if I use this information in my speech.

My personal space expands and decreases depending on the setting I am in. In general and in situations I am familiar with it is 1-3 feet. I wish you luck on your speech.

Thanks. I might need that luck, it's a rainy day and all I want to do is sleep!

My personal space is different depending on who I am dealing with. With friends and family it is probably 1-3 feet. When I am dealing with colleagues or workmen it is more like 3-5 feet. or maybe even more with workmen. I think your ethnic background determines your need for space also.

I'm sure ethnic background has a lot to do with it. We have had two exchange students one from Germany and one from South Korea. They both had different views of personal space. The girl from Korea was more like we are in the US where it depends on where your at. The German was always very close to people, in fact some kids didn't like him because of it.

I think when it comes to meeting strangers not including an elevator of course 3-5 feet seems reasonable to me as a comfortable personal space.U.S.A
