I would go with a cross between (1) and (4). Knowing what your seasonal fruits are helps - I had to learn this the hard way. When I first arrived at the end of winter, I bought strawberries from Spain - which I later found out were actually genetically modified to produce fruit in winter. The insides are white instead of red like regular strawberries and it tastes a little strange. Things like rice are also GM foods...most species/types are GM with the exception of Basmati, glutinous and Thai long grain (this was in 2002 when I was doing a paper on GM foods). Then there are things like seedless fruits - sorry but there is no such thing as seedless grapes or seedless oranges occurring naturally. There are strains of canola which are GM, as well as potatoes, wheat and so forth. In fact, a lot of the produce that you eat is modified in one way or another. In Malaysia, there is an institute specializing in the study of rice production and they manipulate the genetics of the plant to produce one that will yield a stronger and higher crop. What I think people should worry about more since they can't determine what's GM and what's not is the quality of the food - whether it's organic (the presence of pesticides, herbicides, hormones etc), whether it took up a lot of energy & cost to get to where you are (local vs exotic), whether it's Fair Trade and whether it's certified safe for you...

I don't know if they're safe. There have been no long term testing done to prove or disprove. No, they're not the same as other foods. They may taste the same or even better, but anything genetically modified can't be the same. That's the point of altering them, to make them produce better, resist disease, etc. I can't pay attention. They are not labeled GM foods. See answer 3.

Hi!! In fact I don't think they are safe,I read about it in a medical journal. But GM foods or vegetables are very difficult to identify,so I probably take it unknowingly.
