Cataracts

Well I've known for a very long time that this was a possibility. My father had cataracts and I've always had trouble with my eyes.
The optometrist told me 3 years ago that I had "precursors" to cataracts. I've been really having trouble with my left eye lately and went to the optometrist today. He said there was a tiny one just beginning to form but he needed to do some more tests and get a full diagnosis before he referred me to the cataract surgeon.
I don't like surgery at all, but I know laser surgery is nothing at all like going under anesthetic, but I'm still not comfortable with it.
I could use some good vibes sent my way.
Thanks for being a shouder to lean on when I don't want to burden my family. . .yet.

will do :)
i'm probably going to get them eventually too.seems like everyone in my direct family's had them removed.
i really don't know what the precursors are,but i was told stigmatism is usually one of them.

REALLY!! I've been astigmatic all my life, but was never told it was a pre-cursor to cataracts. Well OK then. . .I shall be sure to pass that to my oldest daughter who is also astigmatic. When the optometrist told my I had pre cursors he didn't say what they were.

I am so sorry to here that. Cataracts and glucoma are very prevalent in both sides of my familySo i like you take special care with my eyes. At least they caught it early and that should be a good thing. I will be thinking good thoughts for you. Laser surgery is not nearly as harsh as reg. catarect surgery was(i've seen both)although if your like me that isn't really a big comfort.

Well laser surgery is preferable to the kind my dad had. The problem with the old type surgery is they removed the lens to remove the cataract. Then there was a danger of the lens clouding over in the future. My dad's only lasted about 2 years before it got so he couldn't see. I have a friend who had the laser type and hasn't even worn reading glasses since. But still it's surgery and its expensive and I'm still paying my co-pay on the hip replacement I had last august.
I think what really bothers me is it reminds me I'm getting OLD and I don't feel old.
