I have been hoping and planning for a trip to Ireland except every time I look through all the websites and brochures it looks as if every single vacation is the same tour. And I can't help but to start to think the Ireland is a huge tourist trap. I don't want to feel this way so can anyone tell me something positive?

Even if the only city you visit in Ireland is Dublin, it's worth the trip. You can tour a castle and a brewery and visit a few pubs and meet a lot of nice people from all over. You can visit churches that were built hundreds of years ago and never hear a word from anyone trying to convert you. The flowers spilling over the edges of windows make huge displays on city streets, like nothing I'd ever seen in the U.S. There are places to hear great live music and see terrific dancers too. Galway is another beautiful city, and it doesn't take long to get there from Dublin. More great music and dancers, historical sights and charm. If you travel by land, you can stop at some more old castles on the way.

I say forget about a tour and plan it on your own. Grab a map, some books, and just see what looks interesting to YOU. Not what someone else put together. Then you can explore and take your time, get to do the things you want to do. There's so much more out there than what tours offer. I found Frommers very helpful. You can try the book or just go to the website - www.frommers.com. They give a lot of in depth information for all the regions. Of course, there are other books you can check out as well. Also, just ask around and see what people have to say who have visited or live there. I'm sure they can give you a few idea as where to go. I hope this helps. Don't give up! Stay positive. You'll get there. =)

The problem is I am burried in travel plans, travel books and have bookmarked a million websites. The discouraging thing is all of these things mark Irelands top 20 spots, and there really really has to be something more. But I do thank you for posting, the tip is handy, I just beat you to it have a wonderful day.

I think it is the same with other tours, too.
