Is Angus beef better?

Many supermarkets and fast food chains promote 100% Angus Beef as being "better" than other beef. Can you see a difference in Angus meat and the meat from other breeds?

IMO Angus beef has a redder look to it but it tastes the same as any other steak I've had. Some cuts are leaner than the same cut from a less expensive brand usually but I still wouldn't pay extra for it.

We live and work on a cattle ranch (not Angus), and from what we've seen, what and how much the animal is fed plays a greater part in the taste and appearance of the meat than the breed. Angus breeders claim that their meat has better marbling through the meat. I've never really put two of the same cuts, but different breeds, side by side to compare.

I agree with you...not that I know anything about cattle but we have a few big ranches down here and that's what the cowboys say, too. I don't look so much for marbled meat since my husband had a heart attack. I look for leaner cuts now.
