I like it and, you're right, it is a sad song but it also reminds you to appreciate every day. I have always tried to do that because time does go by so fast and, before you know it, ten years have passed by.

Just a little behind the scenes for you about the song. It was originally wrote by Harry Chapin's wife about her ex-father-in-law. I've always found it to be a song to remind us to enjoy every day that we have with our children, because they grow up all too quickly. Almost all of Harry Chapin's songs have some sort of deep meaning to them.

yes, I heard the song before too. I like the song a lot and thought it was sad also. the fact that his father didn't want to have nothing to do with him, and than when the son does get older, he doesn't have nothing to do with his dad. it all is like a payback is hell song.
the father does his son wrong when the boy is little and young, and when he grows up, he doesn't have nothing to do with his father when his father is old and wanting attention from his boy.
It's like the father saying to the boy,"I didn't want to have nothing to do with you when you were younger, but now that you're older, I want you in my life cus I'm getting older now." it's kind of sorry as ever the way he treats his kid.
