I was member of a gym at one time and I saw some grunters that lift weights. It didn't really bother me. I heard the story about 1 grunter at the gym that got kicked out because they made a rule not to do that. The guy got mad and they had to call the police because he would not leave.

When I work out I usually wear headphones so that I can listen to music. I have never noticed anyone grunting while working out but i don't think that it would bother me. I have watched professional tennis a few times and the players grunt when they hit the ball. Ii have never felt the urge to laugh while watching because it's something natural and helps their skill. I think that it would be rediculous to kick someone out of a gym merely because they grunt when they lift weights...especially a paying customer.

Correction, I heard this on the national news. This silly ban against grunters was not at my gym. By the way I typed it thats the way it looked. Sorry about that.

Personally I grunt, only when I am maxing out though. I also listen to music through my iPod while I work out. I don't really notice people grunting in the gym I go to. But, that's probably because no to many people in the area I live work out. But, the ones who do play some really good basketball. :]

It doesn't usually bother me unless it's people who are just doing it because they are fooling around. Some people may do it took grab attention because they are using a ton of weight in the exercise, but some people just do it as a habit to get the immense amount of weight up. Getting kicked out for grunting? Thats simply ridiculous.

Its natural to grunt when your trying to get heavy weight up on the last reps. That gyms destroying a good workout who banned grunting.

I'm not annoyed, I just hope they're breathing properly because not getting oxygen to the muscles means a less efficient work out. I know I've been known to make funny noises when I frequented the gym with my trainer boyfriend years ago. When I was up to my last reps - with how I blew the air out. I can't believe they made a rule about it.

Yes its good to make noises towards your last reps of a set or else you might implode. Well, to be simple I think its healthy and natural.
