How did you prepare yourself if you are about to travel outside of the country for the first time? Give details on financial, physical & emotional aspects.

Financially: My fiance and I had to learn how to start saving money so we would be able to pay for the cost of the trip and have enough money to spend while we were on our vacation (for excursions, gifts, etc). Emotionally: It was both of our first times flying in an airplane. I was really nervous about that and the day before we left for our trip, I kept thinking that this could be the last day of my life because the plane could crash and stuff. It turned out that I actually didn't mind the flight too bad but the lead up to it was pretty scary stuff for me. Physically: We just made sure we had all of our vaccinations and brought our malaria pills with us when we left for our vacation.

When I was 14 I was a first time traveler. I prepared myself by buying suncream and packing cool clothes. I was so happy to have my first trip on a plane. That was a holiday with my mum and I used the money earned from my paper round. When I was 17 I went to the Netherlands with a friend. I used the money from my Saturday job. I was so happy to be achieving my dream of traveling and I felt so excited. Then after I had worked as a children's nanny in Finland when I was 18 I traveled around Europe by train. This was traveling alone and I needed different currencies for the many countries that I went to. It was fascinating meeting other travelers of different nationalities in the youth hostels that I stayed in. I was delighted to see the scenery, old buildings and interesting sites. I felt mature and happy to be traveling on such a great trip alone. Three years later I was off around the world for just over one year. It is fun to think back to the day, twenty years ago, when I was a first time traveler.

Financial: I usually change about 3/4 of my currency into wherever I'm going before I leave. For example, I usually go to Norway, so before I leave the US, I exchange my money into Kroner before I go. There are many places to do this, just check online for your city. Physical: I do absolutely nothing other than wear comfortable clothes. I tend to wear neutrals as well. I know this is absurd, but Los Angeles has rival gangs, and they have specific gang colors(like red and yellow). I don't know of any rival gangs specifically in airports, but I'd rather not find out by wearing one of "their" colors. If you have a long layover somewhere, do not just sit there waiting. Walk around. Not only will you not have your stuff stolen if you fall asleep, but you will get in some excersize. Stay hydrated. I'll admit I never follow this rule and always order sodas, but water is the best thing for you. Get bottled water unless you know about the city water. Some water tasted very weird...I'll leave it at that Emotional: Jet Lag really doesn't affect me, and I'm generally comfortable with traveling, so someone else may be best at answering this. I just bring small comforts from home, like my ipod(make sure you bring a charger that works with the outlets where you are going, so you don't fry your ipod like I did the first time).

Financially speaking i was supported by my parents that time the only emotional expression is being excited! on board, new places different culture and different lifestyle. theres no such thing as prepare yourself fully but just enjoy it. if you plan to go to other country make sure your ready to face the consequence.
